Classic rock box

The advertisers will try to sell you on things like channel switching, tell you it’s versatile. Really this amp is made for one thing: everything on 10 and ideally a fuzz in front. Want clean? Get a fender. Want metal? Get neuralDSP. This thing only really does the 60s rock sound and it does it so well.

M
Finally found my amp.
Mellotronic 22.02.2020
Hi there, just a very quick notice on the ORIGIN 50 head that I've recently acquired. First off all, I'd like to mention that I am one of those lads getting older and wealthy enough to buy gear that I like. This means that when it does not suits my needs, either it goes back to Thomann or straight on second hand market. I am basically a studio warrior (whenever my job and familly let me) with I guess an acquired taster for things that sounds neat. This amp is the pinacle of what I was looking for: a mid gain, loud and pedal friendly full tube amp. I actually own Orange, Fender and even Boss gears (dark terror, tweed deluxe and Katana 212), I've played lots of Marshall through the years and I know what to expect from a decent amp: versatility, lots of headroom and balanced with my guitar collection. This one gets everything! regarding the pros, the amp is very loud, simple to tune and gets that sizzling Marshallesque sound from 70's (think of Mick Ronson's 200). it literally loves pedals and Les paul's classic 57's but does also a great job with P90 and Telecaster's PUs. The cons, well, it is very loud even with the 5W attenuator, this beast must be tamed for studio and bedroom usage (the Harley Benton's passive attenuator is the way to go). Some will complain about the lack of a built in reverb, but we all know that built in reverbs are usually lame (either DSP or "faux spring") if you want a spacier sound, just plug your best reverb in the effect loop and there you go... For a bit more of 400euros with a decent power attenuator, you cannot be wrong.

Perfect!
Vlkodlak 16.09.2021
I play for more than 20 years. Mostly blues, funk, jazzy, rock. This amp is really great. Easy to find the tone you like. I don't like many buttons, I'm getting lost there. This is such a straight way to get the sound. The amp sounds perfect with my Fender Stratocaster MIM, it also works great with my BOSS ME 80 through the send/return. I've had Fender Blues Deluxe 40w reissue combo, but this head with Harley Benton box sounds grrrrrr. I'm using it for nearly 20 months and you should get one ;)

Review after a few months use
John Gilbride 04.04.2020
Having used this head both for jamming with bands and in tracks I have produced, I can honestly say that it is fantastic. I play a wide range of music, from Steely Dan style jazz rock to Meshuggah style low tuned metal.
Its clean to moderate crunching tones are delicious, the way it breaks up is incredibly pleasing, and when you stick a Les Paul in front of it, the magic starts to happen, chuck on that bridge pickup, and you're set.
Its not a high gain modern metal amp, but with determination, a graphic eq pedal and a cheap OD pedal, Ive been able to get to perform pretty much the way I want to, but with it's own unique character going on.
Pros: Its packed full of tone, SUPER LOUD, and has enough little features in it to be quite versatile.

Cons: It does take a lot of experimentation and getting used to the controls to dial in your tones exactly the way you want to, and it is a little heavy.

An awesome tube amp
KoMarac 01.03.2024
I bought this amp mainly for it's abillity to take pedals well. And i have to say i am really pleased with the range of sounds it produces. It is very responsive. The thing i noticed right when i started playing was it was very snappy and the high frequencies come out really strong which can be a good or bad thing depending on the kind of music you play and the guitars you use. Overall i would definately reccomend this amp if you are looking for a vintage style tube amp that takes pedals really well.

Jim Marshall - The father of loud

Well, this was unespected. I was blown away! This amp is so loud, clean and dirty as much as you want it to be, I don't use the provided switch, only the volume knob on my guitars, and it is beautiful. Sound is so easy to dial in.

My first tube amp
Klaus V 06.06.2023
I love this amp.

The built quality is good and it's easy to use.

Too bad there is no reverb effect thus it's expected to have a reverb pedal in your signal chain.

He offers much more than a warm sound. The atmosphere created if played in the dark is warming as well. Maybe it's the small yellow lamp that ignites when the amp is on. It reminds me of Howl's Moving Castle - Calcifer.

Cool amp.

Amazing amp!
xmutantx880 25.02.2021
This amplifier is incredibly powerful! I play it at home through a reactive load Torpedo captor 8 at -20 decibels, at the very minimum power cutoff of this amplifier (low). Very loud! I also played it with drummer and bassist in my punk rock band, also on the amp's low cutoff (low) and this amp did it! the sound is classic, but I also loaded this amp with an overdrive pedal and played metal and hard core. The disadvantages of the amplifier can probably be attributed to its weight (about 17 kg), but this disadvantage is rather conditional. It has a very pleasant to the touch leather cover. The potentiometer knobs work tightly, without backlash. You can play blues and hard rock and metal and much more. The ergonomics are super. Thank you Marshall for this amplifier!
