With the Yamaha HS5 being among the most popular studio monitors, HS4 are in my opinion, a great option, especially for someone who is just getting their toes dipped into studio gear. What sets them apart is the volume switch in front, which in my opinion makes them more user friendly. Soundwise, I can't comment on exactly how they compare, but the sound is excellent as expected. They definitely don't sound tiny, that's for sure, unless you use them in a bigger room. Overall, I would say they are for someone who's looking for a great pair of monitors that don't cut the corners, are very versatile and offer pretty much everything you need, but in a smaller, more affordable package.
