Clean and Versatile

I bought this to use for my kick drum as a replacement for a D6 that died on me a short while ago (overloaded due to being placed at the port hole of the kick drum). I found the excessive brightness of a D6 a massive pain when it came to mixing it on a recording. The D112 MKII, on the other hand, is perfect. The presence boost around 2-5 kHz works very nicely with the low boost in the 100 Hz region to add clarity and punch.

Pros:
Clear and punchy, yet balanced, and natural sounding.
Sturdy, allegedly not susceptible to overloading.
Cons:
The front part of the clip can get in the way of placing it inside a port hole of the kick drum.

such good sound

So glad I got this to mic my Cajon. It really allows that bottom end through and has such a fat sound to it.

Only thing I'm not a fan of is how the xlr cable runs into the unit, right next to where it screws onto a mic stand. It makes sense when this is placed in tight areas to keep cabling nice and tidy, but I find it a bit fiddly from time to time. (very small inconvenience to an awesome mic).

Why did I wait

I bought this as an upgrade for our rehearshal room drumkit. I have used some OK kick drum mic from a budget drum mick pack. It was not bad at all, but not great either. I have also used a Golden Age Project D2 with OK results. But when I put this on, it was an immediately improvment in clarity in the sound. punchy but yet defined. For this price it is a good Kick drum mic and it has been used both in studios and live for decades.

One of the best kick mics on the market. A must have for any drummer. Sounds great in or outside the kick drum. Live or in the studio it always delivers.
Coupled with a nice PA this thing really gives out what the bass drum has to offer.
Bought many years ago and it's still going strong. You will not be disappointed.
