I have a hollow body Countryman ubass and a solid body Mahalo ubass. Both instruments were stringed with Aquila Thunderguts. Nothing wrong with those strings at all, except the A string on the Mahalo was getting snagged in the nut. Now I could have filed the nut, but since I needed new strings anyway I thought I would try the Thunder Reds as they are a smaller diameter than the Thunderguts. My impression is that the Reds are a little more precise in intonation and vibrate less. The white Thunderguts sound more like an upright. I like that my ubasses now sound a bit different.

Really, really good
Much better for me than the original strings that shipped with the Kala U bass
Smaller diametre, denser.... easier to play and with a lovely round, solid bass-y sound I would not have imagined possible from the U Bass
Cool :)

The read thunder really sounds good on both my Kala SUB and fretless GT micro-bass. The tone is more pronounced with long sustain and brilliant harmonics, they really sings on the fretless.
