Discover your inner freak!

With the MiniFreak, Arturia has enhanced its Freak range with an outstanding synthesizer that serves as a huge update to the already very popular MicroFreak. As an algorithmic synthesizer, the MiniFreak masterfully combines the functional range of two MicroFreaks in one device while at the same time providing some additional features, such as two six-voice oscillators with 22 different synthesis modes, two redesigned LFOs, and a mini keybed with aftertouch. The six-voice polyphonic analogue filter and the new digital effects section with three freely selectable effect slots round off the overall package, delivering unconventional and distinctive sounds while providing every track with an individual touch, all of which makes this a must-have for every sound artist keen to experiment!

Arturia MiniFreak algorithmic synthesizer

Unique oscillators

The centrepiece of the Arturia MiniFreak are its two digital oscillators with a six-voice polyphony each and a total of 22 different oscillator modes, from Virtual Analog and FM through to additive modes and chord and speech synthesis. Three of the synthesis functions are based on very popular oscillators made by the modular synth manufacturer Noise Engineering. However, an impressive sound spectrum is ensured not only by the oscillator's diversity but also by its modulation capabilities, which open up a whole new sonic world. After all, modulation is one the MiniFreak's top priorities: With an even more extensive matrix compared to its counterpart the MicroFreak, users can freely connect modulation sources and targets, enabling any imaginable sound result - from simple leads through to percussive hits and abstract soundscapes.

Perfect for every synth freak

The MiniFreak is Arturia's latest masterpiece and is an absolute must-have for every synthesizer freak seeking to experiment with extraordinary synthesis modes and unique sounds. The numerous oscillator modes combined with the extensive modulation matrix allow sounds to be generated that other synthesizers will be hard-pushed to replicate, making the MiniFreak the ideal tool to give every production its own individual touch. Unlike many other synthesizers with comparably complex functionality, the Minifreak's intuitive operation always enables easy and streamlined use without tedious menu-diving, inviting those who may be new to the synth world as well as professional sound designers to experiment.

About Arturia

Arturia's success story began with software emulations of well-known analogue synthesizers such as the Moog Minimoog, Sequential Prophet-5, and Oberheim SEM. The popular software instruments included in the V Collection are still flagship products of the French developer today. Over time, Arturia has gradually expanded its range and now also offers a host of hardware devices, ranging from synthesizers and keyboard controllers to sequencers. Since then, the former software developer has thus also become a household name in the world of analogue synthesizers and other equipment.

Always ready to get freaky

Unlike the MicroFreak, the MiniFreak features full-sized MIDI ports and a dedicated audio input, making its integration into existing setups even easier than before. Whether it is combined with a DAW via the USB port, external sequencers via MIDI, or used for processing external audio signals, the MiniFreak is equipped to handle every application. Thanks to its additional oscillator modes for processing external audio, such as vocal vocoders, the MiniFreak only reveals its true potential when combined with other hardware, making it the perfect fit for studio use as well as live performances on stage, while creating a lasting impression with its powerful sound - a daring synthesizer for everyone keen to experiment with new sounds and new ways to sonically express themselves.

Poor build quality
Shrine 19.09.2023
Recently I got my hands on my second MiniFreak. The first one got returned to Thomann because 3 of the keyboard keys were not working at all. I spent little time with that synth once I realized it's defective so I didn't pay much attention to other details. But it crossed my mind back then that quality control must be non-existent at Arturia, otherwise you won't get a synth with defective keybed approved for sale. I mean, checking the keys is the very first thing to try, so it looks like there is either no quality testing at all, or it's just someone checking if the synth powers up or not.

Anyway, I got another one recently and spent some time with it. The build quality is astonishingly poor, it's probably the worst piece of audio gear I ever had in terms of build quality. The worst part is the keyboard, all the keys have different pressure resistance, some keys feel "soft", and others feel "stiff". Based on what you are intending to play, this can be a big problem. At least all the keys are working this time, for now.

I'll keep the synth this time, I'm not returning it, but it's a little difficult to enjoy its otherwise great sound abilities while worrying about if some part of it will break down today or not.

Incredibly fun synth, even more so if it's your first hardware unit
Max Antsiferov 24.12.2023
So this is my first hardware synth bar OP-1, and I'm having loads of fun
The modulation matrix is just insane, and the variety of sounds you can get out of this thing is incredible.
Only thing that's bothering is sometimes your fingers can reach touch-sensitive buttons above the keybed(which feels beautiful+aftertouch) while playing, triggering some FX/Sequence by accident
Very, very happy with this little machine
