If you ever wonder why these small ?crappy? box speakers are almost in every major studio the short answer will be:
Pavlin - (default vibration studio) 11.01.2019
Every audio engineer need a reference how a specific audio will transit into consumer audio electronics. Back in the ?old? days ? the beginning of audio post-production a famous brand had made a major breakthrough with this design and they are back again with their original look, but Avantone just make them according to the age we are living today.
No matter if you are taking just one mono speaker or acquiring 2 for stereo you will be more than happy with them. You are receiving this important image in the midrange frequency and last but not the least you are acquiring a tool for waking up your ears after long mixing sessions.
We have bought a set of stereo speakers for the studio and right away from the box they are giving you a super quality sound. Still they need approximately ~24hours of work to break in and unveil their full potential. We have decided to pick the active version because we don?t want another variable step in the equation, choosing the right amplifier etc.
Maybe the best extra they have is the ground lift switch ? if you have some ground loop buzz and hum after hooking them?just switch on or off the switch and everything will be fine. What I can say about the look. Piano black finish with metal rim and by the way they are heavy just keep this in mind. Totally worth the money!

A
Nice tool
Anonymous 18.09.2016
Proper and nice tool for low-quality audio-check, it's a must have in studio. It will boost the mid range, cutting off the low-end and the high range to give you a better perception of how your mix might sound on TV, portable radio-speakers, low-budget car's speakers, etc. I suggest a break-in time.

k
UPDATED REVIEW!
kerochan 01.12.2017
I bought these after reading reports that they were useful.
To be honest I hardly ever use them, they are very well built, look smart, but for the amount of time I use them, I wish I had not bothered!
I use them occasionally for checking for any strange frequencies, and just to give my ears a break from the main monitors.

Changed my mind about these, I am using them more often all the time, great for checking vocals, bass gtr/kick drum in mono, though I do use them in stereo also, just for reference, though I really think just ONE in mono is best,

CR
Extremely useful speakers
Creation Recording Studio 22.10.2014
I use these speakers in the studio for controlling mid-range, by focusing on the mid-range frequencies in the mix, these speakers are extremely useful, checking your mixes on these speakers will help your mixes translate better when they go out into the real world. but don't let your clients hear their mix through these speakers, because these speakers are specially built to do their job by focusing on the mid-range to help you pinpoint any problems in that area, and of course your mixes don't sound complete when you are only listening to the mid range, and some of your clients will not understand why you are doing so. So do your mid-range checking of the mix when they're not there. These speakers are good and dedicated speakers, and very well made.
