A flexible and compact active speaker

The Behringer B205D is an active full-range speaker that can also be used as a monitor thanks to its angled design. The compact cabinet houses a small 5.25" speaker driven by powerful neodymium magnets. Despite its small size, its frequency range of 65 Hz to 18 kHZ means that it can confidently be classed as a "full-range" speaker system. With four simultaneously available inputs and two adjustable microphone preamps, the built-in three-channel mixer accepts XLR, TRS, and RCA inputs. A dedicated three-band EQ (low/mid/high) also provides simple yet effective tonal control.

Connect instruments, CD players, smartphones, tablets, and more

The Behringer B205D can also pick up unbalanced instrument signals via its first channel input. The level can be adjusted at the touch of a button. If condenser microphones are used, phantom power can be switched on for both inputs. The two RCA connectors also allow the connection of line-level stereo signals. These can come from a CD player, for example, but also a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Whatever signals are used: The Behringer B205D delivers a sound pressure level of 113 dB - and that is an impressive amount of power for a speaker of this size.

Suitable for an audience of 20 to 30 people

The integrated Class D power amplifier of the Behringer B205D pumps out 125 W, which makes it suitable for an audience of around 20 to 30 people. This should appeal to wedding singers who perform in small chapels or registry offices. And singer-songwriters can also play living room and party gigs with this active speaker. Thanks to its plastic housing, the speaker, which is not even 30 cm long, weighs just 3.2 kg, making it easy to transport to rehearsals and small gigs. And with its optionally available stand adapter (article no. 486820), the B205D can also be mounted on a stand.

About Behringer

The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.

Stand-compatible and transportable

For vocals, the Behringer B205D can be mounted on a microphone stand. To do this, it is fixed to optionally available microphone adapter. On the top is a flange into which a boom stand can be attached. At gigs, the speaker can be protected during longer breaks with an optionally available custom-fit cover (article no. 308387). For safe transportation, a padded carrying bag made of water-repellent nylon (article no. 484111) or a foam-lined case (article no. 486761) can be used. If you can get by without a per-channel equaliser, Bluetooth connection, and USB player, you will find the Behringer B205 D a helpful little companion for frequent small gigs that comes at a very budget-friendly price.

Great little PA for acoustic duo
Anonymous 27.10.2014
I bought this mainly as a PA for smaller gigs with voice guitar and clarinet. I wanted something very small and light. I'm hoping I might even be able to transport it by bicycle sometimes.

Used it a few times and very pleased. It's perfect for solo playing with a single mic and guitar plugged in, with the extra mic for two of us I use a little mixer, just upgraded to a Behringer 1202fx as that will allow me a touch of reverb and an extra mic if we need one.

Sound is good and loud enough for a cafe gig, I would be quite confident with up to 50 people if they were listening rather than talking and maybe more in the right location. The on-board mixer is just right for solo work and the unit really is tiny.

My only reservation is that although it sits on a mic stand it's a bit heavy for the cheap stands I have so the setup does sway a bit. Also the mounting is designed for a tilted monitor. For PA where it should be more level I've worked out a way to use a boom clamp to tilt it* but it's not ideal. I might buy a proper speaker stand and make a plate for the top to fit at the right angle.

But for the price and the tiny size it's just great. Might even buy a second one.

*The kit includes a short threaded tube that allows booms to be fitted on top of the speaker when used as a monitor. I don't think many people use that for its intended purpose, but clamp it where the boom normally goes in a mic stand and you can attach the speaker mounting spigot on there and have complete control of angle, at the cost of moving the weight of the speaker a bit off-centre.

If space is limited

I bought this after seeing it used by another band. The monitor may be little but loud! It sits on a mic stand using a cross shaped adaptor (included). if you use a boom mic stand there is an adaptor that fits in the top of the unit to enable this ,also included. Due to its design it is very easy to place for your needs, mine sits just behind my hi-hats.
Unlike some wedge monitors you can adjust not only the volume but also the treble, middle and bass. If you're a drummer who plays with a click, you can feed this into a separate channel on the unit.
Since I've had mine, other members of the bands I play in have also purchased them. You can't get a better recommendation than that.

We use a mix of these and pretty much identical Mackie monitors. I can?t tell the difference. Had them for several years and still working perfectly. Ideal for practice and on stage, monitoring all the stage instruments except perhaps the bass. Handy for plugging in iPod or recorder to review songs etc too due to the mixer capability.

Good investment.
Foxcombe 17.05.2020
Overall I’m happy with the monitor particularly weight as I needed something to replace my old the box 110’s that I was finding a bit heavy and cumbersome. The monitor has plenty of volume for my purposes which is just hearing the overall mix. Tone isn’t bad but isn’t really important for me. I only use in and thru to feed another monitor so the other inputs are largely unused but they do work ok. Only thing I have found is that whilst I can hear guitar and backing tracks, it’s more difficult to hear your own voice as the monitor is quite close when stand mounted.
Now the downside. I had to wait over a week and spend £6 on adapters before I could try it on my mike stand because the spec says 3/8in thread but it’s not. It’s 5/8in. Sent an email to Thomann but had a v unhelpful reply basically saying that Thomann only resell them so tough. It’s also very fiddly trying to attach the boom to the top tube. Best way is to take the boom out of the bracket, fit the bracket then replace the boom arm. Didn’t help that one of the locknuts was missing. I’ve emailed Thomann asking for another but I’m not holding my breath !! Would by again though.
