P16-I : Perfect link for my digital monitoring system
Anonymous 31.03.2016
I use Cubase with 3 x MOTU 2408 audio racks. 72 inputs and outputs in total. I wanted a flexible headphone monitor system to allow performers to each have their own mix. After a lot of thought, the Behringer P16 seemed to be the answer. By use of groups, I can send 16 streams to each unit and they can each have an individual mix. The P16-I is the interface that converts the ADAT (or analogue) signals from my audio interfaces into an Ethernet stream that can be passed to the P16 mixers. The front panel has 6 connectors for direct connection to 6 P16 mixers. Or you could connect 6 P16-D expanders allowing up to 48 mixers to be connected! There are also sensitivity controls for the analogue inputs. These are useful if you are connecting to direct analogue outputs from an analogue mixer for example. The unit has LEDS that illuminate to show signal present, ADAT present and how many P16 mixers are connected and working. All in all, a utilitarian product that does a specific range of things very well. If you want to use the P16 system, you need this unit. I'm glad I bought the P16 system and intend to add more mixers to the 4 I bought as funds allow. The P16-I will continue to be at the centre of it all.

Very versatile

The P16I allows the P16 system to be used with other mixers than Behringer. I use the P16 system in this way: Line signals from my DI8000 are split to my Soundcraft Mini Stagebox and the inputs on the P16I module. Microphone signals are sent directly to the mixer and then returned via the stagebox to the P16I. Regular AUX mixes from the mixer are also sent to the P16I. The musicians then compose their own personal mix from all those sources. Only small problem is occasional switching noice from the slide switches, remember to exercise them from time to time. Also, it would have been nice with Ethercon sockets but I guess there simply wasn't room nor budget.

Behringer Powerplay P16-I Module makes the studio monitoring infrastructure as simple as it always should've been. At this time I lack the imagination for anything simpler.

The Best Monitoring

Very easy module which can be connected with TRS or ADAT. I prefer ADAT because the signal is equal to the preamp. No additional settings just connect with LAN to Behringer mixer and start monitoring. I think this is one of the best product from Behringer company.

Great piece of kit for the studio!

Excellent product. Very easy to use and understand. I was up and running within minutes and am delighted with it's function. It's also great that it has individual attenuators on the unit. Well designed and robust. Just plug in, set the attenuators to suit and then forget about it. Great piece of kit for the studio.

Amazing at this pricepoint

Awesome gear, couldn't recommend this more. I do notice a small loss in sound quality but for my use-case (rehearsal) that is no real issue. I can image some might fall over this, but alternatives are way expensive.
