Best tom mic on the market
UsedForGlue 13.02.2018
I?ll break this down to very simple points.

1. Cheapest priced for the best quality Mic in its price bracket.
2. Doesn?t require a mic stand, clips to any rim, and has all the neck movement you need. Most clip Mics won?t let you move it left or right from centre of the drum.
3. Low profiling. Great for squeezing into tight spaces between Toms and cymbals. It?s also black, so it doesn?t detract from your kit, no matter what colour.
4. Unlike most Mics in its price range, it is very road worthy, not just studio ready,so you don?t have to be precious about taking it out live, it also comes with a soft case.
5. Industry standard mic. You won?t need to upgrade any time soon after purchasing.

If you want one mic for both live and studio, then this is the mic you need for your percussion, Toms and snare bottom.

S
AMAZING !
Stephane4242 03.06.2019
I was looking for a small but mighty microphone for my snare. Something that is discreet, unobtrusive, not bulky with an awkward fat clamp and reliable, that would render my snare accurately. Oh Boy ! what a magical piece of hardware that is ! The Beyerdynamic TG D58 ticks ALL the boxes. It is truly small, nicely fits at the top of the snare, just under the tom tom. Not in my way at all, it catches full hits, rimshots, side sticks perfectly ! The clamp is also amazing and attaches so easily on the rim of the hoop with the clam. the fact that the XLR is built in the clamp makes it a joy... I would probably buy 3 more for the toms when finance becomes available to me...but I would not hesitate to buy them. Go go go... it's an amazing product

Great
Vihren Hristov 05.09.2019
A perfect mic for tight places - small, discreet, sturdy, perfect clamp for the rim... and the price is unbeatable. For those of you who use an 8" tom - this is the mic guys! I'm not sure how good for studio work it might be because it pics a lot of bleed from the cymbals. And I know some prefer to isolate every part of the drumset as possible. But in my case that's a positiv thing because in a live setting (small bars) I use less mics as possible (mostly no overheads) so that mic slightly opens the sound spectrum in the upper register, makes it a bit airy the way only condenser mic does it. So bye bye overheads ;)

N
Top German quality + Super on toms!
Novusuhu 28.07.2020
Pro's:
- Made in Germany: very good quality (strong material).
- The clip is easy to attach and remove on drums.
- Elastic neck-end: you can hit it with a drum stick and the mic will still be in place. The end of the neck absorbs the 'shock'.
- Sounds super on tom's: very natural and clear (toms must be tuned good though). They are 'unforgiving' on a badly tuned drum kit.

Cons:
- Somewhat 'limited' in mic positioning (but not real problem when used on toms and floor toms)
- They have some bleed, because of the cardioid patern and because they are condenser mics.

Waaaaay better than dynamics for recording
Mockie 18.12.2019
You think drums and dynamic mics are the gold standard but c'mon, you're missing the nuances that only a condenser can give you. At the very least, if you record drums then have a couple of these as an alternative to your go-to dynamics.

The clips on these bad boys are excellent also, they make quick work of snapping them on and off while the gooseneck gives you nice freedom of direction on your drum skin so you can aim at the stick or the shell with ease and confidence

I am using this mic on stage and studio on my floor toms.
With this mic I can have just enough low-end on my floor toms.
This mic is very easy to set with special drum mounting system.
Amazing sound and very handfull dimensions.

AD
An incredible microphone at an incredible price!
Alex Djuran 28.06.2019
I bought one of these mics, just to see what I could do with them. Most studios I've interned at had Shure gooseneck condensers on the toms, so I wanted to try this since it's much more affordable.

Needless to say, I'm completely blown away by this microphone! It's small, with a clamp that could crush a brick. It's made of metal and carbon fiber infused plastic so it's veeery sturdy. I was afraid that the gooseneck would bend down after a few hits on the drums it's clamped to, but nope, the mics stay stationary the whole time!

As for the sound, it's exactly what you'd expect from a small condenser mic. Fantastic top end clarity, very neutral and if placed well, you can enhance the low end pickup, but honestly it doesn't need it that much. This microphone is incredibly hard to get to sound bad.

My only gripe with the mic is that it picks up aloooot, of cymbal bleed, more so than most other gooseneck condensers I've used, but with the proper gating and processing, all that can be dealt with in a mix.
I now own 4 of these, and plan to get more eventually!

10/10 for the beyerdynamic TG D58c!

N
Impressive snare mic!
NickKorobo 16.09.2023
I was not happy with how dynamic mics were capturing the snare drum so I wanted to try a condenser mic. I was thinking to try high-end mic from earthworks or neumann but since I was not totally sure, I settled with the trusty and reasonably priced Beyer.
What a nice surprise!
1. The mic a capable to capture the nuances of the snare in a much more realistic way than dynamic mics do. If I record it, I finally can identify my snare.
2. This is a discreet solution that combines a low profile mic without the need for additional clamps. You can place it in snares or toms without bulky stands or clamps and it does not stand in your way at all.
3. Having a Cardioid pattern, I find the vertical position optimal for reducing cymbal bleed.
4. In fact, despite being more sensitive, the bleed is very controllable. The cymbal bleed itself is not harsh sounding anymore, making it easy to handle or mix.
5. Affordable price.

It is a condenser but don't be afraid to use it for either live or studio use. Absolute great value for the money.

HV
One of the best mics for tom
Hugo Varvoglis 22.12.2017
Amazing sound, clean and natural with balanced low end and open highs, I bought 2 of them and 2 d57 for my recording studio and without any eq the drum set sound clean and punchy. The clam is great, stable and very easy to plug it and hung it.
The mic has high output so you don?t need to squeeze the gain and your channels will remain clean from preamp noise.
As a conclusion is an amazing mic for very good price, competing mics with triple price or above.

The cheap secret to detailed tom recordings
Jeddr 05.09.2021
Detailed and natural sound, because of the condensor capsule. Doesn't sound scooped, so very usual for different musical styles. The positioning works better than with it's sibling TG D57.
