Bring on the piano concert!

The Casio AP-470 BK Celviano digital piano in white delivers an impressive array of upright and grand piano sounds courtesy of its extremely rich polyphony features and multi-dimensional AiR sound generation, which offer comparatively numerous sounds emitted from two powerful speakers. Thanks to an extensive range of features, further sound refinements are possible, including four levels of stereophonic sound that simulate a grand piano with its lid open. The Casio AP-470 BK Celviano can also be operated by app if required, and songs can be recorded as MIDI or WAV files, or imported from a computer.

Digital piano with grand piano sound

The Casio AP-470 BK Celviano features 22 tones, including two grand piano variants. The 255-voice polyphony creates an extraordinary sound experience that fills the room from two powerful 20W speakers, or can be delivered through headphones via two 6.3mm jack sockets. Numerous other features boasted by this model include string resonance and a key-off function, while the Split, Layer, and Duet modes enable varied playing arrangements in addition to parallel learning. The built-in audio recorder can record 99 songs, each up to a sonata-friendly length of 25 minutes, as MIDI files and exchange them with a computer via a USB port. WAV files in turn are recorded and played via the USB flash drive. And anyone wishing to explore the finer points of the AP-470 by app can do so on a tablet or smartphone using the Android or iOS operating system.

For hobbyists and pros alike

The Casio AP-470 delivers a pleasing sound and playing experience for both beginners and advanced players, providing realistic sounds that will delight anyone entering the world of piano playing. The hammer action keyboard has an authentic feel and, in the same way as an upright or grand piano, the sound is heard on striking and releasing the keys. The spatial sound experience is further enhanced by opening the piano lid. Advanced players will benefit from the transposition and tuning functions, while numerous effects such as brilliance and reverb can also be incorporated, and 60 upright piano and orchestral pieces can be accessed via the integral music library. The Concert Play function also allows pianists to play along with an orchestral accompaniment.

About Casio

The Japanese company Casio was founded in 1946 and initially became famous for its electronic calculators and wristwatches. The company released its first electronic musical instrument back in 1980, since which several decades of experience have poured into the production of keyboards, synthesizers, and digital pianos, including classics such as the CZ synth series and the digital pianos of the Celviano and Privia series. Casio's core corporate philosophy is to contribute to society through its creative products.

An orchestral accompaniment

The Casio AP-470 BK Celviano is assembled using a crosshead screwdriver. The pedals in turn are wired into the corresponding socket behind the rear panel, and the power connection is established by inserting the included mains cable into the connection on the underside of the base where, incidentally, the inputs for the headphones can also be found. When not in use, the headphones can simply be hung on the bracket provided. For anyone wishing to play the piano part of a song with an orchestral accompaniment, this can now be achieved in just a few simple steps by scrolling through the titles while holding down the Function key, selecting a title, and activating the Concert Play function – and voila, the orchestra is ready to play! The AP-470 is conveniently adjusted to the required sound level using a volume synch equalizer, rendering the low frequencies of this digital piano pleasantly sonorous even at low volume.

Love it

I'm very much a beginner. Currently using Alfred's Adult all in one book 2 and Fundamental Keys I've only played two other DPs I used a Yamaha P115 for over a year, which I never liked from the moment I first pressed a key and I had a Roland FP30 which I returned due to hissing speakers. And reviews are subjective, so your mileage may vary, etc.

Casio pros:

Value for money is excellent.

Sound. I love the grand piano samples. In the following order, American, Modern and German. This thing sounds like a real piano to my ear. The effects such as string and damper resonance really do add a lot to the experience.

Action. Very good. Lovely finish on the keys. Not loud but with a satisfying little thunk. Plenty of space between the black keys ( compared to the Yamaha).

Speakers. There are four. And they are loud, clear and very good quality.

Build quality and design. Build quality is excellent. Solid with no faults. Love the design. The hinged speaker cover. The music rest at the right height. The solid pedals. The sliding key cover.

Extras. Love the audio and midi recording, the ability to use an Android app to control everything and the fact you can auto resume with your last settings.

Casio Cons:

USB Recording. Volume is too quiet and requires an external program to amplify recordings.

Sound. Bass end could do with a little bit more oomph.

So in conclusion, for the price paid. I love this piano. Had I been able to afford it, I would probably have bought a Kawai CN37 or a Yamaha CLP635. But as it is, I'm very happy with my purchase. Hope this review inspires someone to try out a Casio.

Big Fan!
RMack 23.01.2019
Beautiful piano to have in any home comfortable to play with very responsive feedback to touch. Pedals work perfectly as expected - being able to lift the "lid" also makes a huge difference to the quality. Minor issues using the Casio app but was resolved with updating iDevices. All in all if you are looking for a good bang for your buck digital piano to not only look great in your home but sound and play great - this is the one.

For its price, the AP-470 brings everything I needed to practice.

They textured keys make all the difference, so do the up-firing speakers! The mounting was extremely easy too!
