Beautiful

These flatwound 12 gauge strings are very full sounding. I don't find them too heavy as I am still able to bend them (I normally play bass). On my 50s Vintera Telecaster they perfectly balance out the twangy sound. Regular strings sounded too shrill to my ear.

Disappointing, a bit sticky
Anonymous 20.04.2016
I play some jazz and funk using a Godin archtop. Maybe I was unlucky with this set, but there shouldn't be manufacturing inconsistencies. They felt a little sticky/tacky. The 3rd string buzzed, so i replaced it and the new string was fine. They were better after being broken in. I have had some fine sets of these in the past. I would recommend the Thomastik as an alternative also.

Great flat-wounds
Andy737 02.08.2013
I used these for years on full-body jazz guitars and semi's. I always found them absolutely reliable and well-made. I often changed the top two strings for something (even) heavier though. If you want the mellow jazz sound, without the edge of round-wounds, these are probably the most cost-effective option. I'm not sure how they'd sound with a light or medium pick though (I always use heavy 2mm picks). If you're a hammer and pull shredder, or a full-time bender, you'll probably find them too heavy. I've recently switched to TI Jazz Swing - although they're more expensive - due to their feel and tension. These things are very personal though and choice depends on so many things: how you play; your guitar; pick; the sound you like, etc. I'm afraid there's no alternative really to trying different string-sets yourself. If you're into flats, you should certainly test these out. But check the weight first - Chromes come in a good variety of weights. And, if you like these for say, EADG, but want something heavier for BE, d'Addario make singles, which greatly increases flexibility.

Great strings

Never had any problems with these strings. In fact never had any problem with strings from D'Addario ever. These are flat wound strings and they deliver what they're suppose to.

K
Flatwound strings for you electric
Kimi 06.10.2015
These strings are by far the most consistent flatwounds I have found. The strings deliver a really warm and balanced tone without the muddiness some flatwounds have. I use these on a 17" jazzbox and the do the job really well. The top strings are clear and pristine while the bottom strings deliver a full and round sound easy to play chords with. With some of the flatwounds i find the bass side a bit mushy when playing chords with your thumb but these strings seem to articulate pretty well. The quality of the flatwound if superb and I find these strings to fit my playing style really well.

Great Tone
SJS 14.02.2021
Bought these strings to replace the ones that were originally in a vintage Japanese ES 175 copy that i bought some years ago. I expect the same results: a great vintage Jazz tone.

Pros: D'Addario strings traditional quality
Cons: None
