I use those on an Epiphone Emperor Regent:
played acoustic, it has clarity and brightness, makes an arch-top sound 'less jazz' which is great as a tracking guitar for a sound different from the flat-tops.
Plugged, it sounds smooth and fat as you like it in jazz.
A serious alternative if you feel flat-wounds make your guitar limited to "jazz only" context.

D'addario for the win

I love all D'addario strings, especially their acoustics. These are great strings. To clarify; they are bright, metallic sounding, as you might expect. Strong and long lasting. And I put my strings through a tough work out.

B
good compromise between flat wound and round wound.

Top quality strings. Good compromise between round wound - too zingy for jazz, and flat wound - basses too dull for my taste. I've used these for years on my archtop jazz boxes.

D'Addario EHR350 Half Round .012-.052

I have now more recently tried a set of these on a HB Manhattan Jazz guitar. These are slightly heavier than the original 010-046 supplied with the guitar, but the smooth finish is extremely comfortable. The acoustic sound is now stronger with the heavier gauge, and the jazz pickup is still brighter than it would be with flat wounds. My additional piezo acoustic transducer blends to give the audience - recording a much truer representation of what I am hearing.

My first "jazz" strings

As I'd just gotten myself a proper jazz-box, wanted something recommended to put on it.

These feel great on the finger, low noise, but to be honest if you've only got a jazz guitar with neck pickup, they might be a bit too muddy for you.
