Fair enough, but not astonishing
Valance 05.05.2017
Got this set for the 'Harley Benton HBMA-50' mandolin because the ones it came with were too rough and coarse.

This D'Addario set was fair enough and the strings were definitely softer and felt much better under my fingers. The sound was surely brighter and louder than the ones I had by design on the mandolin. But for some reason, at this price, I was expecting something much better. In brief, I was not blown away by this set of strings, but I didn't dislike them either. However, I definitely expected something more special for this price.

I will be still looking at more string sets to finally offer me that vintage, deep, and bluegrass tone. Unfortunately, this set, although practically good, does not do that in terms of tone at all.

Great for Mahogany body Instruments
Michael S. 639 31.03.2018
Really glad I checked these out, they convinced me 80/20 is the way to go. Put them on a mahogany bodied instrument to brighten it up and it did the trick. They sound great - I'm an 80/20 convert now.

Sold strings, good twang
Anonymous 26.07.2016
Picked these up when also purchasing the harley benton mandolin(I play guitar but for 60 quid who can pass up a mando!) as it's always good to change strings from stock ones.

As nearly every instrument the stock strings are fine but were dull and went out of tune too easily. After slapping this bad boys on it just sang. Made that chorus sound ring even warmer.

Perfect set for a dynamic playing stile

Perfect set for a dynamic playing stile. Bronze gives a not excessive brilliance tone. Plane strings could last a bit more with inox treatment.

Soft strings, good sound, a little less volume.
Melker 28.01.2015
I bought these strings just in order to make it easier to fret those bar chords that you inevitably have to play if you want to get away from the G-C-D-A5 route. And these strings really delivers on that: light tension is what you get! The sound is pleasing, not as strong as with thicker strings but the timbre is really good.

If you play amplified: definitely go for these! if you need to be loud: pick something with a heavier gauge.

Probably the best mandolin strings for this price.
Maxim K. 10.04.2014
I've tried a lot of different string on the market, and I always come back to D'Addario. They simply seem to be the best strings money can buy. I'm talkin' not only about mandolin strings but about the ones for guitars as well.
