This finally got my lowest string tight and solid for the really deep tunings.
Had to modify the nut to fit this in, so going back and forth between gauges this size isn't really possible. Then again, you shouldn't swap back and forth between that different string tensions anyway, since it requires reintonation, trussrod adjustment and whatnot.
It did what I wanted, for a guitar that will always be assigned to those low tunings.

Thick yet bright

A great string for those extra-low notes. I use this for my Schecter 7 string which is mostly tuned to Open C with the lowest note being a G. I find the D'addario .072 to be the perfect size for this as it is fat and thick sounding yet not at all muddy or loose, it produces a nice sharp, clear tone even with such a low, rumbling note it does not get lost in the mix, even when playing in unison with the bass guitar it sticks out clearly and gives my riffs an extra bit of kick to them.

Acoustic 7 string
Boyan Hristov 12.06.2024
I use it on my acoustic 7 string as my low B as there's nothing else available of similar thickness. Elixir has a .59 which is not thick enough. I tune down my 7 string acoustic a a whole step down so my lowest note is concert A 55Hz. The string holds up ok with the low tuning, but I wish there was a .74 or even .76 as I can use a bit more tension.
The rest of my strings are from Martin Retro 13s and the winding on my low E is quite larger than the winding on the .72 Daddario. The Martin definitely sounds bigger and brighter - the daddario sounds a bit muffled and weak in comparison. I wish Daddario would make a single .72 in NYXL or Martin made thicker Retro strings but I understand that this is very very niche so I use what I can find.
