The Original Sounding Wah!
D. Facelift 02.06.2013
I have used many Wah pedals in the last 4 years or so of playing. My playing style has progressed as I've specifically started listening to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Alice in Chains more. At gigs with other bands playing, I've had the opportunity to use different Wahs such as the Vox Wah and Rocktron Wahs. The Vox Wah required clicking a button to turn it on before using it which was a big setback, plus it was too sharp sounding. The Rocktron Wah just didn't compare to the Cry Baby in terms of quality of sound, the coherency or it's ease of use (It didn't compare to the Vox Wah in those terms too, as a matter of fact!). When I was first thought how to use the Cry Baby by a fellow local Guitarist, I fell in love with it right away. I don't know whether it was just the pedal, the Guitarist playing it was amazing too but he had mastered it and ever since then, I had wanted one.

When I was browsing through different music shops, I found the Cry Baby GCB95 F which is just the modern, cheaper version of this. I asked around and tried it out but it just wasn't the same as the 'Classic' model. People had told me that it had to do with the Fasel coils in it. I hate buying things out of popularity of it so this was stuff was important to me to know. It's a big reason why i bought this one specifically.

I bought it off Thomann and have been using it A LOT ever since. My band and I have written quite a few songs recently and I have been using it in them in different ways. I'm not the great soloing Guitarist that I should be, I'm still learning. Though with the things I do know how to do on the guitar, I can get the most amazing sounds using this pedal, usually mixed with another pedal. I'm still trying to get used to it fully, but that's part of the fun of it! People at our shows have noticed it's use and are usually in awe of the sound it makes while I play, even if I'm doing something very simple.

I love the pedal and would recommend it to anyone thinking of buying one. The only drawback from it that I can think of is that it's not the most versatile of pedals. I play a lot of different styles and genres of music and I can use it for most but not in a big capacity for some of it and sometimes it just sits there, not being used for a lot of songs onstage. Perfect for blues and metal Guitarists, not so great with pop rock!

Hope this is a good review and hope it helps, thanks!

It sounds as good as you are expecting it to

Look, you know you're viewing this Wah instead of the dozen other ones because you want to wahwah on a budget. Well you will be happy to know that it does indeed wah and Ive been using it for close to a year now and it's still wah'n away. It doesn't have any fancy knobs or settings to colour your tone, but you know that before you buy it so I can't fault it for that. The only downside is that I have it plugged into a powerbank and the lead keeps falling out of the pedal which is a problem with all of these Dunlop wahs (not sure about the other brands) so I will probably need to use a knife to cut away some of the plastic casing around the power hole which isn't ideal. That's my only fault with it.

What a great sound!
Anonymous 02.01.2016
I don't use many pedals in a gig situation but this is one pedal I'll be bringing to every gig. The sound I get with this in front of my Orange amp is full, warm and just what I was looking for.

Its built like a tank, but the pedal action became loose after a few gigs which is an easy fix but could become pretty annoying if you had to do this often.

Overall a great pedal to add to any pedalboard for both the minimalist and the hoarder. Something to note however is that when the pedal is engaged it does add a bit of a boost to your signal. If you are using the amps distortion (I dont know if this is the same when using OD pedals) it tends to add a noticeable bit of gain to your tone as well as a little boost in volume .. for me this is perfect as its used primarily for lead parts but something to consider.

M
squeaks louder than my amp
MOF1971 17.06.2020
Sound is a very important feature, when it comes to music. I think every Dunlop Wah pedal should come with an oil can. The squeaking of this pedal is much louder than my little Orange Micro Terror. So, until hardware stores are open in Madrid, I will not know how the wah, of the wah pedal really sounds. My advice, get a lot of oil first, if it squeaks this loudly when new...

Good wah, classic sound.
Luke393 28.05.2013
I'd been using the standard Dunlop wah for a few years, but when it finally started to show it's age I decided to replace it with this...

I don't tend to use wah for funk style playing so can't really comment on that... But with a bit of overdrive and a decent delay, this can give you some great sounds... I use it to gently shape my tone in lead parts, and for this it is excellent. When bypassed I haven't noticed any 'tone suck' and it feels good under your foot with an nice even 'sweep'.

My only comment would be that when it's on it seems to give you a slight gain increase, nothing huge, but will make my sound a little more overdriven and increases the volume slightly. This can be really useful when you need to suddenly be heard for a solo, but something to be aware of when you're engaging it for quieter parts.

I really like it and don't have any intention to replacing it, but if it did break, the gain increase issue might just be enough to make me look for something slightly different.

Amazing
Solar 28.06.2017
It's incredible how this pedal sounds with my guitar! The brightness of single coils achieves a unique sound and power that I never seen before. I have a Original CryBaby GCB95 too but it does not sound like a fassel wah at all maybe because It seems to cut the clean sound of a Strat (but still this is a very good wah too). Jimmy Hendrix and Yngwie Malmsteen have used it along their career and they keep it using as a part of their amazing sound, I'm very happy with this pedal!
