Modular Drum Machine
Klar Kinelis 12.03.2021
The Queen of Pentacles is a TR-909 v 2.0 in a sturdy, modular package, without a sequencer. It has a wonderful analogue bass drum, snare and clap. The bass drum is a real punchy "kick" and the snare + clap have a broad soundscape (from soft to punchy). Then you have the four sample slots - yes! - you can create your custom TR-909 with your own samples - the files need to be in a specific format (16bit .wav files), allow you to use 0-10 minute samples. You cannot CV control the pitch of sounds, but you can adjust the sample to the desired tone, then save the knob position. The DSP, sound effects, are fine, they can add a lot of character. The filter is similar to isolators, so with one knob for HPS or LPF, the middle position is unfiltered, takes some time to learn but it is an excellent tool for live performance. Yes - this unit is perfect for live performance, you need only an external sequencer to use it.
The downsides are the small tiny knobs that affect some sounds - it is not easy to turn them without hitting/turning other knobs.

Great drum machine with endless possibilities
Fooksie 21.01.2021
I was looking at a drum machine to start with.
When i was searching i was deciding between a fully sampled drum module or the DFAM.

This one has the best of both worlds (if you like the 909), you can upload every sample you want and use the onboard FX on them.

The only downside is the filter knob (the big one), its too sensitive while its not easy to feel if you are at 12 a clock (neutral).

This whole module is used with a beatstep Pro.
