Must have tool
7 Dying Trees 20.01.2022
I have a lot of guitars. For years I have hated restringing (they are all floyds). I'd had this in my basket for a year, and needed a cheap xmas present for someone to get me.

I wish I had had this sooner. It literally has made restring so much less painful and quick that I've happily done 1-3 guitars an evening and it hasn't sucked.

Make your life suck less. Buy this.

Why didn?t I get one of these sooner?!
Andrew4413 02.05.2016
I have been really pleased with the Ernie Ball Power Peg 4118 and can?t understand why I didn?t buy one sooner. When I ordered it I was concerned that this battery powered string winder might be a bit on the large size but that turned out not to be the case. It is reasonably substantial but no more than it needs to be making it both comfortable to hold but not unwieldy.

The universal winder head has fitted all my guitars including a Gibson Les Paul, several Ibanez guitars (6, 7 and 8 strings), a vintage Kramer and an LTD 7-string baritone. With some of my acoustic guitars the heads of tuning pegs are quite large but the winder head still manages to get enough purchase to be effective.

You activate the winder using a 2-way trigger. It?s easy to use and I haven?t had a problem using it at all, even with my sausage fingers.

Battery life has been great. I?ve wound a bunch of guitars and it?s still on its first set of batteries. The winder includes a latch to lock the trigger so when you throw it in your gig bag or whatever it doesn?t accidentally start winding and use up battery life.

Overall I?m very pleased with the Ernie Ball Power Peg and no longer dread the chore of restringing my instruments.

Excellent tool (too big though)
Carnivore 29.11.2017
Brilliant idea and a real time and pain saver! I believe that I will be happy with this purchase for many years to come, since it eases up a task that is very time consuming and cumbersome otherwise.

I was unimpressed (yet not surprised) with the chinese quality of this tool. but the price is right and will do the trick anyway. So no complaints in that department I guess.

The tool sports ample power for its task, and batteries seem to last long (already used it on several restringing duties and I can only guess).

Another con (admittedly subjective and not vital to ditch purchasing this fantastic idea) is the size. This "drill" is vastly larger than I expected (say 70% the size of a household usual drill). So size is less than ideal to consider this winder comfortable to keep with you at all times in the case. Then again, this will usually find its place at home so it migth not be a factor for you.

In short: is a fantastic idea that renders a painful job into something fast and easy, looks and feels like plastic, is tolerably fancy looking, is large and eats power within reason. A clever purchase!

Good item

This is a good item, and does exactly what it says. The build quality is not great, its a bit like a child's toy.

No locking tuners? No problem!
DrewGR 04.02.2019
All the hours lost on unwinding the strings are done. Changes are very easy with this little thing. Normal batteries, which means, you don't need to charge it.
If you don't have locking tuners, this is a work tool, plain and simple.

Build quality is not great.
Madruga 13.06.2018
First one I received was not working and the battery cover was not closing properly. Got a second one. It worked well but like on the first one, the battery cover was not closing properly and kept opening. I had to put a piece of tape to hold the cover.

Simple piece of automation
Thomusicman 21.01.2016
The Power Peg is really handy and simple piece of automation, that in my case allowed me to speed up string changing process at least 2x times. The tool seem to fit any type of peg heads. Worked well for me with so called "butter beans" and standard bigger pegs.

The only concern I have at the moment is that how long will those 4 AA batteries last.
