If you want a good smack and little overtones, this is a good choice. Probably won't need any extra muffling and two plies give the head more durability than a single ply. Personally, I've ever had any quality issues with the dozens of Evans heads I've used over the years.
I'd recommend this for heavier music styles and heavier hitters who don't want to use extra muffling and know they're after a dry sound. Muffled heads like these are easier to tune, as you don't get much in terms of overtones or extra sounds. And if you're using a dry head like this, you probably won't have to replace the head very soon, if the sound you're after is more about attack, smack and crack, and less about tone and sustain.
