Smooth switching with lots of permutations
Marty V 18.12.2019
Whether you need to set up Tosin Abasi's Fishman Fluence signature set and switching configuration or just want to serial-parallel switch a set of Seymour Duncans with coil split, this is the switch you need.
With four rails and five switch positions you can set up your signal chain any way you want to. The connectors are on a PCB and there are 24 of them. One for the zero and five for the positions over 4 rails. Also the action is very smooth but precise enough to get the right pick up configuration on the fly. Combine it with push pull switches to expand even more on the permutations. Like phase invertion or adding tone capacitors. True, the setup can be a bit of a puzzle with all those connectors but the quality and versatility makes it worth the effort. A little remark on the finishing, I feel taht the plastic knob could have been made a little better, I had to use a little drop of glue to make it stick.
I used this combined with two push pull switches to get 15 possible voices out of my Tosin sig Fishmans in my Ibanez RGA8 and set up my Seymour Duncans with coil split and parallel serial with just one push pull in my RG7420. Enjoy!

So many options …
Mart69 16.01.2022
This switch is probably one of the best switches of its kind that you will ever need to buy. With so many wiring options you will be hard put to exhaust the configurations available to you. Yes, if you are inexperienced at wiring pickups it may be a little daunting but the sheer quality of this item is enough to make up for and kind of steep learning curve and the price tag. If your configuration needs are not so complex I would suggest looking at the “S” version which is suitable for strat or Jem type setups. If you want to make the most of your Fishman Tosin Abasi set, for example, you could do infinitely worse than giving these a look.

My Tele has now 5 positions !
Zambo 13.09.2024
I bought one of these swithces as upgrade for my Fender Telecaster AM Pro.
I implemented configuration "SS3" mentioned in the documentation of Shaller (the config adds an "in-series" and an "out-of-phase" position to the typical Tele config).

PROS:
- Documentation: The docs from Shaller are really great. From the way the switch is documented, it's impossible to do wiring mistakes.
- Configurations: This switch allows you to implement a LOT of different configurations
- Size: The danger of 5-way super switches is that sometimes they are too big and they don't fit in the cavity. This Megaswitch on the other hand is built in such a way that you'll NEVER have this issue.
- Precision: it's one of the easiest switches to use that I tried in my life. It's very clear in which position the switch is, as oppose to bad switches, that with time become very sloppy and unprecise, and especially positions 2-3-4 will not stay stable anymore. This is a very high quality feature.
- Big Pads: the soldering pads are very big and they accept soldering iron extremely well (I set soldering temperature on 370 deg Celsius)

CONS:
- Soldering experience: you should take into account that you don't have through hole pins, but only pads. This makes it harder to solder in case you have multiple connections to one pad. I recommend a bit of soldering experience if you're interested in this item.
- Click: I hear a slight click/pop when going into position 4. I don't know if it's caused by a defect of the switch manufacturing, or by the presence of additional capacitor for the out-of-phase position. I'll update this comment once I'll know it.

Overall, I like this switch very much.
I'm extremely happy I finally have the "in-series" position on my Tele, a nice fatter/bigger sound which is even hum-cancelling !
Biggest pro is the documentation, which helps A LOT and gives plenty of inspiration for new/weird/special/crazy wirings for guitars of ANY pickup config.

Good, but expected more.
Alexandr Mardari 26.10.2020
After first checking before soldering spring plate felt out of a switch and it losed 5 steps separation. How it can be possible, I don't understand. I've made a little bend on a plate in the place where the ball toches it before installing spring plate back into switch. otherwise it is losing central position and falling out. After all made switch works flawlessly.

Versatile, quiet alternate switch, but no dedicated shield terminals
Mz/x 24.07.2021
I use this with a HSS guitar, it can replicate the classic XXS, XSS, XSX, HSX and HXX setups, but of course you can make the HXS or other combinations, too.

I used this for two setups, one was a traditional HSS wiring and for the second I played with the combinations of the single pickups. Worked great in both cases, for the first I used 2 circuits and for the second I used all 4 circuits. Both setups worked great.

It can switch 4 independent circuits. ABCDE to F, GHIJK to L, MNOPQ to R and STUVW to X. It's got a thick metal housing, the switch is quiet.

The only negative point is related to the thick metal housing, you can't really solder anything on the housing itself (I've got a 25W thick iron, still it struggles with this). I'd add thin, easily solderable terminals to connect the housing to shield. It'd result in much tidier wiring. My workaround was to unscrew one of the screws that hold the PCB and just wind a shield wire around it and screw back, It does the job, but then you'd need to add some insulating tape behind, not to short the rest of the wiring, eh. Since the metal case is insulated from the circuit, you have floating big chunk of metal half-enclosure around the signals you want to switch, not a very good idea. Bottom line: I would've wanted dedicated, easy solder shield terminals for this kind of money.

All in all, if you're looking for an update compared to a traditional 5 way switch, this is a good candidate, just bear in mind you'd probably need to use the PCB screws for shield connection.

Really convenient, solid and non invasive!
Wrenchman 13.08.2024
While it does require a bit of soldering skills, flux, good iron and calm, the switch is really convenient when it comes to soldering, be it because you can prep everything flat!
I do wish there was a clearer support. While all the combinations are listed in Schaller online wiring library, it lead me to some confusion.
Simple solve: establishing the wires color chart, north +, north -, south +, south -, with simple and clear graphics. I think the best example there is, is Dimarzio wiring diagrams.
Other than that, the switch is very cleverly done, compact and feels solid.

Just in case, I'll make your life easier.
Schaller Humbucker color code is:
Inner coil: YELLOW: North + (Hot Output), BROWN: North -
Outer coil: WHITE: South +, GREEN: South - (Ground)

O
Great switch (if not the best one)!
Orim 13.04.2018
This is probably the best switch I ever used.

Functionality
The same as super switches (Fender, or DiMarzio). This switch allows you to do virtually any combination of pickups wiring on your guitar (with HH, HS, HSH, HSS, SSS pickups).

Operation
The smoothest switching of all switches I ever used (including Fender, Oak Grigsby, DiMarzio and Switchcraft). Absolutely quiet and precise. I am now seriously considering to replace all switches on my guitars with that model.

Remarks
Schaller says Model M is mostly for HH, Model E is HSS and so on. Not really. I am using Model M on HSH and HSS.

To those who say "no instruction", or "no schematics", or "crippled instruction", or "I have X years of experience, but cannot use this switch" - if you cannot understand (ABCDE)F, (GHIJK)L, (MNOPQ)R, (STUVW)X, then this switch is not for you. But then again - Fender or DiMarzio, or Oak Grigsby are also not for you. They all operate using exactly same logic.
In that case, simply take your guitar to a luthier ;-)

If you want 5 way, quality build, extremely smoothly, precisely and quietly(!) operating switch - Megaswitch Version M is definitely for you.

Schaller Megaswitch M
George6762 29.08.2014
This is the Megaswitch manufactured by Schaller. The build quality is excellent and very compact.
When it arrived I was very happy to see that it was v2 of the toggle switch which has a curved bottom rather than the squared off bottom of the v1 switch that you see in the image. This gives you a little more space to work with. Especially useful if you have a very small cavity to work in.
It fits perfectly in my Ibanez S series guitar and opens up the wiring options available considerably without taking up more space than the original toggle switch.
