Thought it was a gimmick, oh boy was I wrong...

I've always been a fan of passives, despite owning some guitars with actives, they've never got my heart like passives did, a bit because they sounded a little too, sterile, and a lot because they would lose their **** if I got anywhere near my PC. After watching some things about Fluences and how they sit in the middle with the best of both worlds with none of the bad I decided to try them out.
Without turning this review into an essay, I'll cut it down to simply say.
They give you options, if you want them. (either PP's or stick the supplied jumper on the pickup)
3 voices, each pickup, and a 3 way switch ? You do the math.
They look amazing with the pole pieces and black chrome finish. There's other options too !
And to top it all off, somehow, honest to god this seems like magic, they are dead quiet, quieter than my passives, to the point of me thinking I hadn't plugged in the guitar yet.

Incredible versatility
François Arnould 17.02.2022
Installed in an Ibanez RGA42FM with a 5-way megaswitch. Any kind of combination possible, at the moment I have it set up for
pos 1 bridge voice 1/2 with tone push-pull
pos 2 bridge voice 3 (single coil)
pos 3 bridge + neck both voice 3 (single coil) a bit like on a Tele
pos 4 neck voice 3 (single coil)
pos 5 neck voice 1/2 with tone push-pull

Now the guitar can tackle anything. The single coil sounds (voice 3) are really great, especially the neck one.
Voice 1 is a PAF-type sound while voice 2 is more like a higher output humbucker. Voice 1 sounds amazing, clear, open and warm, you can really tell the difference when switching from voice 2, which is fuller and with higher output of course and works great for metal. So on my guitar I can go from spanky clean to full-bore metal with clear palm-mutes, great chugs while still sounding organic.

Installation is a bit tricky if you are not following one of the wiring schemes posted on their website, but with a bit of research and experimentation I got there eventually.

Keep in mind the pickups are taller than standard humbuckers - wood-mounted in my guitar, so I had to remove the spring and foam under the pickup so that it wouldn't sit too high.

A great product and I'm sure I'll gradually transition to all my guitars having Fishman Fluences in them as there is no compromise in terms of tone compared to traditional wound pickups, and the versatility is out of this world. Finally a real innovation with great results in the very static field (pardon the pun) of guitar pickups.

Fishman' take on PAF
StephanPK 04.07.2022
Classic Fishman pickups, Voice 1 is nothing special, like regular PAF style, but voice 2 is really nice. Very nice cleans in the neck, hot bridge for dirty sounds, it's just perfect.
