About linuxsupport

I bought this device because its predecessor had a pretty good reputation in the linux world. While the 2i2 2nd Gen seemes to have worked right out of the box under linux operating systems, this is no longer the case with the 3rd generation. One can get it working, though.

The problem is that the 2i2 3rd gen ships in mass storage mode. So when you plug it into your computer the first time, it appears like a usb drive and is not usable as a soundcard. It needs to be set into its operational mode before you can actually use it, which is done using Focusrite's control software. But sadly the software is only available for windows and mac. So I had to go to my parents place, plug my scarlett into their old windows pc and download the necessary software from Focusrite, which then performed a firmware update on the device and set it into "sound card mode". After the firmware update the scarlett worked without further configuration on my Arch Linux laptop.

I don't know if there are other ways to set the device into operation mode, so if you don't have access to a windows or mac computer, I would advise against buying this audio interface.

Although, when you got it working, it seems to be a pretty good audio interface and i had no problems so far. Nice sound, very low background noise, good latencies, and I like the direct monitoring feature. I really don't need the 'Air' feature, but that might just be a matter of taste.

Excellent little AI from a top brand. Great buy!

I'm just getting started with home recording, so didn't want to spend a fortune. I'm no expert, but I researched the hell out of various AI options before settling on this one. It definitely gets the highest approval. It's compact, sturdy, super easy to use and plugs in and plays (you don't need to download extra software to make it work). Vocal frequency enhancement button on the one input is a sweet bonus.

Great Budget Interface
OlliD63 04.07.2022
I bought this after much research as my first audio interface, and it works great! However after accidentally dropping it off of my desk, the connection at the back became a bit dodgy. I've seen other people mention that this happens quite often, but its nothing a couple rubber bands couldn't fix in my case, so it shouldn't be any cause for concern.
If you don't drop it, it won't break! I highly recommend!

Good but with some cons
Jurrian 07.04.2024
This was my first audio interface and it has served me relatively well. The audio quality is good and it allows me to connect my electric guitar, bass guitar and studio monitors to my PC.

I have noticed some cons though. The volume indicators are plain bad. They flicker red/orange/green depending on the volume. Because it doesn't show a db scale or anything, it is difficult to pick the best volume and leave enough headroom for more aggressive strumming.

A second issue I have concerns the drivers. Every now and again audio outside of my DAW (Youtube, for example) will be delayed 2-4 seconds and very low quality. This can be fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the interface, but it's quite annoying.

I also would have liked two headphone outputs, so I might switch this interface for one that has that.

Budget Interface

Works great right out of the box. Compared to my. previous behringer UMC204HD it works better. There's no audible white noise coming from the interface in the DAW

Buena y confiable.
Marco Di Cesare 02.10.2021

If you need it - buy it. Easy recommend

The product is great. I use it often and never really had any complaints, except recently I've noticed clipping, but that might be an external source.

EK
Fantastic quality, with functional but imperfect software
Elliot K 31.10.2022
The Scarlett 2i2 is built to be indestructible, and provides a great feature set. Audio quality is fantastic, though it could for some microphones provide a bit too little gain.

My only issue has been some software confusion, but this is likely because I am an audio gear beginner. Still, it is somewhat unclear how the two channels are used with my DAW.

I like excellent sound quality, simple design and low price
I don't like Quick start Tool - online registration which unlocks device and makes it fully operational
Registration process is anything but quick
I think it is overkill for such simple and cheap device and I would be much more satisfied if it was plug an play
I don't like USB C to USB A cabel and USB C plug on rear panel because they don't feel robust
I have cracking noise on windows OS when using sample rate higher then 48 kHz
For home recording it is a good choice so I'm satisfied
