Size Matters

Arguably the most important question to consider when choosing a pedal board is the question of size. This one is quite big, with plenty of room to fit lots of stuff.

It's obvious they meant it to be stepped on. The construction is rock solid and the board itself is positioned at a nice angle, which is a great selling point and in my opinion makes it stand out from the briefcase-type boards out there. (I haven't tried one of those, I must admit.) It's quite heavy, though. I guess this is the downside of a rock solid construction; however, even without pedals attached, carrying the thing around can be a challenge.

The gig bag makes carrying easier and offers adequate protection.

The slots provided for mains cables are more than adequate, although it would be nice to have grooves or rails to guide the cables neatly in and out. Underneath the unit you get fixing holes for power units, although I haven't been able to fix anything there so far.

The price is lower than other products of this range, which in no way indicates poor quality.

Overall, highly recommended if the size is right for you.

M
sturdy
MatthewG 29.01.2014
this is a very large and sturdy board and dear lord does it feel it!
i have walked over a mile with this across my shoulder fully laiden with pedals and cables but the straps on the bag survived without any obvious signs of wear and tear and the carry case didn't seem to have been effected in the slightest so top marks for build quality there!

this board is huge, i have a very large collection of pedals and this gives me room for all of them (except the whammy) and room to lay them out however i want!

the only places that this board falls down are the weight although with a wooden board of this size that is to be expected, the lack of a more heavy gauge padded strap (the strap is perfectly serviceable but i won't be making another trek with mine any time soon) and the fact that it is a solid board so you cannot feed any of the patch cables underneath to keep them out of the way.

So if you want a VERY large and sturdy board as i did then this is for you.
but if you want something a bit more flashy or light weight then i advise you to look else wear and be prepared to pay far more than this for something of comparable quality else where.

Gets the job done
Chris4010 11.02.2014
This is a great quality product, very robust and sturdy, but I've found that this comes at a price. This is that it is very heavy.
On the one hand it protects £1000 worth of equipment and gives me no worries what so ever, but I really do struggle to carry it from the car to the venue etc.

The case is made from a nice thick cloth type material, and the zips are good quality so that they don't get stuck in their travel.
There are 2 large pockets on the front that I use to store my cables.

The board itself is made from a thick and heavy wood. After 2 years use this has had no chips out of it and still looks as new.
The entire thing is covered in Velcro which you can add to your pedals if you want.
Personally I don't want to put Velcro on my pedals, and have found that the case itself holds the pedals in place when in transit, so I don't actually need it.

Overall this case gives me confidence to take expensive gear out of the house, but I really do not look forward to carrying it.

Organisation....

...is the most important thing when you use several pedals.

For a long time I never had problem like this, because I ran through a multieffects board and had the footswitch of my amp. But when I added three compact pedals, I needed to have a pedalboard.

The Gator is very big, but I need the size because I still use my multieffects board and the JVM footswitch is very big. The attachment with velcro tapes is a common standard, but what I miss is some slots to arrange the cables under the board instead of on it.

But that's ok, because the price makes it very affordable. The bag is pretty good in order to protect the pedals, but if you want them to be 100% save, you really should consider to buy a board with a hard case.

One negative point: The board is made from wood which makes it heavier than a aluminium board like the pedaltrain. But hey, this thing is really solid and nearly undestroyable - at last this is the most important fact for me.

Great little bag!
Daniel9393 08.01.2014
First, i got a real bad copy of this bag, which was badly glued, badly cut in the "leather", glue residue was left and also some other stuff, which showed that those who made ??my bag had a bad day at work, but i sent it back and got a new bag that looked much finer and more substantial out! Well done Thomann's complaint department! A good bag with a large compartment on the outside, a good thing is that it cames with Velcro! I really recommend these bags, a very good alternative to the big heavy bulky pedalboards that you would otherwise buy. A solid handle, quite easy to pack and easy to carry with you. Great!

ST
Gator Pedal Board
Sindri Thor 11.04.2014
Gator are a great brand, whether it's flightcases or pedal boards. Good Standards for price.
I really like this pedal board, mainly because of its size! I've got good room for my effects and Power Unit. One thing I miss are holes for AC cables. But it doesn't bug me that much.

Along with the pedal board i Received a soft bag to go with it. At first I thought, hey need... This is going to be all right... First gig I had to jam the pedal board into the bag (really hard because it was so bloody tight)... But when it was ready I strapped the bag on my shoulder and boom, the strap was cut i half. So not good quality there. So now when I'm gigging I'll have to sqeaze my hand into some small handle on the side of the board. That's a Big MINUS.

But the board itself is absolutely great!!!

A
A decent quality and size for a realistic price
Anonymous 22.11.2014
Shopping around for the perfect pedal board is a nightmare. A lot of these things are cheaply made and offer very little in terms of space to play with. Most companies who make pedal boards really pile on an absurd price for what it essentially is: a slab of plywood covered in tolex with a carry bag. There are countless rip-off merchants out there doing exactly that.

Gator are not one of them.

When I saw the price of this board I breathed a sigh of relief after trawling online stores and being put off by all the extortionate price tags being tagged to smaller products. So, I hit BUY.

Definitely not disappointed. There's plenty of room to play with on this thing, the velcro base and non-slatted design gives you a lot more flexibility than most other boards on the market, and the carry bag is extremely durable and hard-wearing. I have carried this thing with the strap when it has been fully-loaded with every pedal I own, and the only thing buckling under the strain and weight was me! The carry bag will still be going strong when I have long since had to retire to a wheelchair because my back and knees have gone. :)

This is a must-buy for the gigging musician who needs space, flexibility, durability and ease of use at a realistic and fair price. Forget the expensive alternatives, they never live up to the price tag.

R
Very Solid and Durable But Very Heavy....
RainerMaria 11.06.2017
I've used this pedalboard for a few years now. It's quite a heavy duty board, with a very strong, durable bag to put it in. It's the kind of board that will last the rest of your life. And the bag may too. It has very heavy-duty zippers, so I can't imagine them going bad any time soon. Good strong shoulder strap, too. I also appreciate the angle of the board, which is perfect for my needs and has plenty of space underneath for a powerbank (though I don't use one). If it has any drawback, it's probably just the standard shortcomings of this design. 1) The wood is very heavy. If weight is an important issue for you, there are certainly lighter pedalboards to be found out there. 2) Unlike boards that are constructed by aluminum bars, there's no space underneath your pedals to route pesky cables out of the way. As your board becomes more populated (as mine did from year to year), this becomes more and more of an issue. But besides those two drawbacks, this is a very durable, well-constructed board and bag which should last as long as you need it.

N
Good board, not so good case
Nerz 28.05.2017
This is a great board with lots of room for pedal. The velcro strips that come with the board are strong and durable. I have had this board for a number of years and it has served me very well.

The issue I would take is with the zip around the edge of the case. It broke within a few weeks of purchasing. I wasn't heavy handed with the case but it was getting a lot of use, which may have contributed to it's demise.

I would advise something sturdier although for the price point, this is still a good product.

g
solid fx board with room for improvements
glamrock 14.02.2014
im using this board for 3 years now and it has lot to offer. it has enough space for the most situations and its really sturdy. also, the included bag is quite good quality and has a lot of room for cables and other stuff.

after the 3 years, its still in a good shape. it will surely last a few more years before giving up. on the other hand, this results in being quite heavy, even wihout having pedals on it. filled up with pedals, it gets reeeeally heavy and a torture to move around. also, it would be great if it had more holes in it for cable routing. with its plain surface, it can get quite difficult to get the pedals and cables in the desired position without having cables lying all around.

it a good alternative if you're not willing to spend the money for a pedaltrain. but all things considered, it cant keep up with it.
