Horrible sounding strings.
TrEr 25.07.2020
I honestly can't understand why anyone would like these strings. They sound kinda like flats but with the hollow, mids of rounds. The worst of both worlds. Clanky yet dull. Very lifeless. They're also very stiff and uncomfortable and the ball ends are bigger than most strings so they won't fit all types of bridges.

Build quality seems good so I'm sure they will last a very long time. Except that the probably won't because they will end up in the garbage bin pretty fast.

I knew before I got them that opinions are extremely divided on these strings but I couldn't really know without trying them myself could I? As it turns out I'm very much in the NAY camp.

Not recommended.

J
Works well on SG bass
John3168 14.10.2014
When fitted to my SG Bass copy, they gave me an authentic 60s tone, deep and but without as much top end to the notes- easily remedied if you use a pick instead of fingers. A drawback was that the heavy gauge meant that the low E string needed a bit of work to fit into the bridge slot. A heavier gauge string also means that the usual tension of the strings is increased, so bending the strings slightly is harder - string bends on bass may not be to everyone's taste but try a slight bend on blues numbers, it sounds good! I'd not tried GHS before but they are less cost than other brands - Hofner say- and the quality is there.

Fantastic strings
Anonymous 09.09.2015
Was really surprised by these strings. First of all there more of a half wound than a full flatwound in feel.
The tension is really good unlike other shortscale strings not flabby but not too much tension.
The tone is very nice between a flat and a roundwound. And will get more mellow with age i think.
I also like the pelham blue silk so would suit say a pelham blue epiphone or gibson.
I will say that the gauge is slightly unusual and the nut did need slight attention to get them to fit correct and at the bridge it was a tight fit thankfully the don't have any silk at the ball end, this helps.
These are a very good price and in my view is just as good as other more expensive strings.

Cheap but great
SimonDK 17.09.2020
I put these strings on a short scale P-bass to get a sound closer to a 'beatles'-bass and it works pretty good.
The strings sound great and feel pretty good.
The only minus is that they are bit sticky and takes a lot of playing before the stickiness is gone.

Superb strings that sound in between flats and rounds
The Ohm-men 21.01.2024
I usually buy La Bella flats for my short scale bases, but after restoring a vintage Jolana Iris Bass, I felt this bass needed something different.
The GHS Brite Flats looked to be what I was looking for and I have to say these are exactly what I hoped for.
Essentially these are halfround strings, not tapewound like normal flatwound strings but a flat roundwound string. Thus give you a feel of flatwounds but with a sound that sits between flat and roundwound strings.
The Jolana Iris Bass sounds exactly what I was looking for, warm but stil with a brightness on top. The strings feel really good under my fingers.
As this bass has small single coil pick ups it needed a bit of "beef". The strings deliver just that. Tone and volume knobs are very usuable.
I previously had a roundwound set of strings on this bass and it buzzed all over and sounded too thin overall, the GHS give no buzz and a lot more low end!
My only complaint is that the strings should have been a little bit longer as the silk windings on the strings ends at the top are on just on the zero fret of the Bass. 2 to 3 cm would make the set perfect for all type of 30" to 30.5" scale inch basses.
This makes the set perfect for top loading short scale basses like the Squier Bronco or the Epiphone SG bass, but I think for a Mustang bass (string through) they will be a tad too short.

Best of both worlds
Jacques Nomdefamille 20.11.2024
These are basically a better alternative to D'addario Half Round bass strings because D'addario doesn't make these in short scale anymore + they have better tension (especially on the E string)
Not as clanky as roundwound bass strings, not as lifeless as flawounds. For heavier rock there's nothing better.

pretty good strings
TheSowIsMine 23.10.2017
Theses strings were a bit sticky when they came out of the package. because of that it didn't pay very comfortable for the first week. But now the stickiness is gone and Im very happy with them.
The string tension is good, not too tight not too loose.

great

Well it is not exactly round sound with flat string, but it is close. I use them on a Dean short scale bass, and they sound excellent. No finger worn-out either.
