SG eine solide Gitarre
Kleemes 05.07.2024

V
A stunningly beautiful guitar with low frets
Victoorius 09.09.2024
To start with, I have never liked SGs. I never thought that one day I would buy one. Yet, I did. I wanted to have a Gibson and had no good experience with Tributes and Studios, and did not want to spend a fortune on a Standard with all recent QC issues at Gibson.

The guitar arrived in perfect condition. Marvelously beautiful finish, the color is just awesome. Out of the box settings were acceptable, though not perfect.

This guitar is very comfortable to play sitting, it is light, provides great access to higher registers of the fretboard. I was amazed by the playability. Pickups sound very well, even if I am used to high(er) output pickups, I found them to be very good for an almost all-round use.

I have not found any scratches, dents or other QC issues on this model. Overall, it just felt superb.

There was one thing though that started to bug me. The frets of the guitar, even if they are said to be medium jumbo, are very low. I measured 1,01 mm at the octave, which is by far the shortest of all 6 other guitars I have. Those frets are 1,2-1,45 mm.

Therefore bending was really uncomfortable as the tips of my fingers rubbed the fretboard which I hate. I was wondering for a while to keep the instrument as it did impress me but the frets. Eventually, I decided not to keep it and ask for the refund.

If taller frets and smooth, comfortable bending is important for you, I do not recommend this model. It may have been just extensive plekking at the factory, though.

My recent experience with Gibson guitars makes me say that Gibson does not work with medium jumbo frets for models they say they have.

Otherwise, you will be very happy with this guitar as it looks fabulous and plays great - go and just grab one.

On a side note, the customer service and the services at Thomann is second to none.
