Gruvgear Fretwrap SM

If you are recording a guitar, you probably ran into an issue with some weird sounds and overtunes heard in the recording. That is exactly what this little gadget is here to remove. After putting this on my ESP LTD EC-1000 I did not notice a difference - but after putting it on my Epiphone Les Paul Special, I could clearly hear the difference.

That's more a testament of how awesome ESP's are, but regardless, you will most likely not hear the difference in a live setting (unless you have super awesome in-ear monitors, ala Matt Heafy, where you can hear the most minute imperfections).

If you love recording your guitar and want to get rid of overtones even after playing the section perfectly, this should be a weapon of choice in your arsenal.

Bonus point: Personally, it also looks cool on a guitar.

It did seem expensive to buy and I was kinda doing the same thing with my hairs rubber band's but ...kinda doing it.
When i first placed it on I immediately saw and felt the difference. Sweeping has never been easier. It looks like it's made from quality materials and nice stitching. I have a feeling it will last a long time.

I use it for both my Carvin and my Hamer. I do have to point out though, that because my Hamer has a Floyd with a locking nut you can't slide it off with one hand like i can do with my Carvin, which has a Floyd, but has a plain nut with locking tuners.

I'm using it with my LTD EC-1000AT. It's a bit pricey for a velcro band, but it does the job as intended. I was planning to buy the wider and golden one that Matteo Mancuso uses, but they weren't listed on Thomann. Better luck next time. I think using this with Strat-type headstocks is much easier due to the lack of an arch behind the nut, especially when sliding back to the nut to use the open strings. The sweep picking you do will spoil you even more. Personally, I don't keep it on the guitar all the time—whether it leads to lazy muting techniques in practice, well, maybe! :)

Does what it's meant for, helps damping unwanted string noises, but do not expect wonders. If you put it on your guitar and strum strings without fretting anything you can still hear a lot of semi-muffled strings, especially with high-gain settings. If you want to test it before buying, go ahead and take a long sock and wrap it around your guitar neck across the strings. If you find the result OK, go and buy Fretwrap - it's easier to use and does not smell as bad as your sock.

Better damping could only be achieved by totally different kind of mechanics, with rubbery materials, maybe touching multiple points on string.
