Beautiful looking uke, awful sound problems

I love the look of this uke and for the price, £48 plus shipping it seems too good to be true. Then I plugged it in. oh dear! massive hum and the Volume and Tone also acted as one. Played around with the electrics, still awful. so I have swapped out the Piezo, Volume and Tone pots and am now replacing with a proper ukulele passive preamp and will be modifying the wood to fit it in, Testing before obviously. I replaced the strings with better quality ones as the nylon ones produced a very tinny sound. It is about time Thomann sorted these issues out as the product is not exactly new to the market and seem to be relying on customers to do their own fixes rather than retail a reasonable sounding quality uke. I will still be happy once my work is complete though because I love the look of this Concert Uke. In my opinion if they put in a battery, a reasonably priced Belcat style active ukulele preamp and some decent string, got the intonation right as well, the feel and quality of it would still make it a steal for around the £100 mark

Not bad...

Okay, before I say anything, I did not pay a lot of money for this. It's unfair to expect a hand luthiered, fine crafted instrument.

But it did come with a free gig bag...

The set up was okay, the finish was okay, it sounds okay.

Okay. Nothing special. Not bad... But seriously, what do you expect? It's certainly good enough to play (based on my limited experience of ukuleles) and good enough to use as a practice instrument. It's a great value little thing.

All things considered, should you buy one? Just look at it! It looks so cool! Of course you should buy one! And yes. It sounds mad through a guitar amp... I know you were wondering.

I bought this to hang up in my house next to my LTD Viper (of a similar colour), but now I find myself taking up the ukulele.

A good offering that is a lot of fun!

It's fine for the price, nevertheless the frets are not quite calibrated. The tuning doesn't match the frets which could be uncomfortable if you don't know how to tune by ear.

Accurate for the price

It's an electric instrument with nylon strings, not much to expect there. I bought it to be able to put distortion and such on a uke but by now it's more of a novelty item on my wall. The strings don't stay in tune for long but that's to be expected for the price and quality of the product. Maybe I'm just using it wrong, I dunno. All in all, exactly what's to be expected for the price.
Looks hella cool though B-)
