I really mean it. A cheap modeler/multi-effects unit is gonna sound better than a cheap combo amp.
I have a small SX amp+cab that I bought second hand a while ago and paid the same price as this unit. I also have some pedals, some of them from Thomann, some of them I bought second hand. All in all, in terms of amp and pedals I have spent about 3 times the price of this modeler, and it sounded... fine... But I wanted a simpler setup that I could also use just to practice at night and take to practices and so, so I bought this.
I was VERY SURPRISED by the sound I got out of this.
I am not gonna say it sounds like an expensive modeler or an expensive amp, just because I don't have a lot of experience with more high-end stuff, but I must say... The sound of this is awesome!
Definitely better than any real amp you could get at this price point.
I now prefer playing this.
I have tested it with 2 guitars, one of them a baritone, the other one a strat, and both sound good in it.
I have also tested it with a keyboard (turning amp sim and cab sim off) and the effects are great!
My only complaint with it is that there is menu diving to do. If you want to seriously change a sound, you have to spend a minute or two messing with the controls. I would love to have more buttons, for example one or two assignable buttons per preset, or something like that.
But honestly, once you have dialed in 3 sounds (one for each foot switch), you can definitely use it live (like I have).
I like the noise suppression, it works really well and is necessary on high gain sound, so I am glad it is there.
I also really like the delays and reverbs, they sound like something much more expensive.
I recommend this.
