Surprising great bass guitar
Happy D 29.12.2019
I mainly sing and play acoustic guitar but always fancied having a go with bass and play at my local jam nights. Didn’t want to spend a lot of money just in case it didn’t work out so I went for the cheaper HB bass.

Got to say I am super pleased with the bass. It’s really, really nice! It looks great and plays remarkably well. Sounds great through the amp so I am very happy. It did need a little truss rod adjustment and a small set up out of the box, but hey so did my £700 Taylor acoustic when it was new! Half a turn on the truss rod and oil on the neck and we were good to go.

If you are thinking of buying a lefty bass don’t even hesitate it’s great! I think I will have the P bass next :)

SLAP the LIKE button if you're a lefty bassist

A fantastic budget bass for someone like me, a left-handed guitarist who wanted to pick up a bass to SLAPP when the feeling strikes.

I can't imagine being able to pick up a legitimate musical instrument for less than this price. Like any guitar off the shelf, it needed a setup. But I am into that sort of thing and was able to get this bass to play the way I needed it to play in around 10 minutes after fixing the following:

High action at the first fret. Sanded the nut down a tiny bit.
Found three high frets. Leveled them.
Followed this with a typical setup of desired action and relief; set the intonation. It plays and sounds great!

The pickups aren't amazing, but again, this is a $93 bass. I would never have thought I could have purchased an instrument of this quality for less than $100. If you are a tinkerer and know basic guitar setup concepts, you'll have no problem setting this up the way you like it. If you aren't picky, then you'll probably have an even better time.

There's no way I could have gotten something like this, as a lefty, at this price. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend this to my fellow southpaw SLAPPERS.

Another result from Harley Benton!

I'd been contemplating picking up a bass for a while, but left handed options are limited, especially at the budget price end. Having already purchased a stunning CST-24 I knew they could put out a quality instrument, so I took a gamble on this JB-20 ... and I haven?t been disappointed.

There?s one tiny flaw on the instrument in that the neck is not properly aligned, with the G string much closer to the edge of the fretboard than the E. However, whilst its visible it doesn?t affect playability at all.

Other than that, the bass is solidly put together, holds tuning well, and sounds (to my ignorant ears!) pretty damn good. The finish is flawless on my example and everything hold together very well.

In all, a crazy amount of instrument for a crazy price!

I started playing bass around last year and found it incredibly difficult to find a bass that was not only left handed but also affordable in case I decided I didn't really want it, and the JB-20 is the perfect fit for that. It's affordable, it's rather comfortable to wear with a strap and it's got a great sound to it, however it is a budget bass, so don't expect it to be a lifelong purchase. The bottom pickups are not completely aligned to the strings, you can see little gaps in the body where the shape was cut out and (with my model at least) the A string buzzes because the bridge is slightly loose, but then again it is just a starting bass. Overall I feel like it was a good buy and you should consider yourself if you want a decent sounding Jazz bass

I would buy this again - no question!

Heading says it all. I took a punt on this. I have a Fender Jazz bass (keep for best) and a Harley Benton JB-75 already and just fancied a "cheap" Jazz bass to de-fret. However, when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. Nice woods used, not as heavy as the JB-75. After a swap of strings, bridge adjustment and a tweak with the truss rod to slightly straighten the neck, it plays extraordinarily well.now, I don't think I'll bother to remove the frets now, and am also considering selling the JB-75... it's just too heavy. This (at least mine) bass is a little belter. RECOMMENDED.

Very Impressed!
Mr T, 02.11.2020
My Harley Benton bass arrived safely, well boxed, this morning and I am delighted with it.I started playing bass at 15 and am an official O.A.P. now and I have played many makes of bass over the years and I can hardly believe a £90 bass can be this good.My son in law happens to also be a lefthanded player and I gigged his Mexican Fender Jazz for four years and this bass is just as good! This is bass no.5 and I think my new favourite.Sound, action and finish are top notch.Decided to buy it as I have a HB acoustic that impressed me.

Great vfm bass
Kostas K 02.11.2019
I bought this jb a year ago, just needed a cheap bass for recordings..
I have to admit that I didn't expect a 100€ bass to sound,
look and feel so good!..
Everything works as it's supposed to, the pickups sound good,
the fretboard feels fine and it's actually beautiful!
I found two downsides:
- when it arrives, you have to give it a proper setup, cause of the buzzing
and the bad intonation, after that you'll have a proper bass
- one of the knobs makes a low volume hissing sound whenever I twist it,
I don't use my knobs very often though so I don't even mind changing it

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase..I recommend this for any beginner
looking for his/her first bass, or for someone who needs a bass for casual stuff..

I bought this after much scouring of the reviews, here at Thomann and other sites.
I used to have a bass as a teenager, but never had the money for a lefty, so now in my 40s I'm trying again.
Turns out I'm more comfortable with a righty bass, but that's not the point here.
Thomann fulfilled my order very efficiently, and it arrived quickly.
As for the bass itself, I did have to file the fret edges, as they were slightly sharp, but other than tuning it up, that was all that was needed.
It's surprisingly well made, albeit a bit heavy, but it is solid, and feels comfortable when playing. It really looks the business, too.
As for sound, obviously at £95, you're not hoping for the best, but it really does sound nice through both pickups.
As I said, I'm more comfortable on a right handed bass, and when I do get round to buying it, it will be another Harley Benton. Awesome value for the money!

Heavy weight and singing sound
RR_Gothrom 22.11.2021
I take the one for left hand training.
It is very heavy weighted against my Cort Action 4
But I have been charmed by the sound of JB20 against my Cort. The sound is brighter and very clean,
As cons. I have a problem with original nut. It is not good at all and I plan to change it to Graph Tech TUSQ nut

I got this jazzbass to play at home when my Ibanez GSR200L BK is in the practiceroom, and i got no car.

I have change the strings to Ernie Ball Habrid Slinky and it sounds much better than the original strings.
For practice at home and for beginners this is a very got bass.
