I've been playing a Fender Elite 4-string P-Bass and an Ibanez Gary Willis 205 fretless 5-string and I wanted something that sat between the two, a round-wound 5-string for slap yet sensitive enough for quiet composition. The Roxy 5 does it.
It's a 15" radius- which Thomann should include in the description- and it's a very similar sound to the P-bass with round-wounds. I like a low action and it's possible to get the Roxy 5 down lower than the P-bass, another point in its favour. Recording-wise there's very little difference between the sound of the two- but that low B string opens new sonic possibilities and it sounds powerful.
It's lightweight, like the ash Ibanez, well-balanced and nicely finished. The neck feels good and the fretboard edges are a treat to feel.
Complaints ? The usual , I suppose. A gig-bag included- but who trusts one of those ? - no user manual for maintenance or controls- so you need to watch Ed Friedland's You Tube video for a comprenensive review and guide.
Top marks from me. Nice one, Siggy.
