This cymbal is pretty special. It has a relatively dark character, but still with some sparkle to it. It is slightly trashy, but not so much it ruins the beauty of the sound, it just adds a little extra chaotic character to it and makes it shimmer.
If I were to describe the sound in one word, it would be "beautiful".
It's also fast decaying for it's size, and low pitched for its size. An unusual combination that makes it sound bigger than it is, while getting out of the way much faster than a bigger cymbal would. Very useful IMO, especially when playing quietly.
It is in short a very musical and pleasant cymbal that really adds character to your kit! I often use this crash as my main crash, with the 16" version right next to it as a secondary accent crash that decays even faster.
If I have anything negative to say about it, it's that it's best used as a crash alone. Riding on it sounds interesting but is a bit "clangy", and the bell isn't all that great.
Sometimes you really need brilliant cymbals with a lot of top end (hello Paiste!), but if you're looking for a darker and more "organic" crash cymbal sound with a lot of character, try these!
