I've been a pro sax player for over 30 years working in the pop, rock & functions band field and over this time I played lots of mouthpieces. I for the past 10 years I've been playing on a Vandoren Jumbo Java A45 but I always felt it was lacking that bit of extra edge a metal mouthpiece gives so I thought I give the Jody Jazz Super7 Jet a try.
Got to say I was knocked out by it! What a great mouthpiece. It's really well made but it plays so well. The tone it gives me is perfect for that pop/smooth jazz sound that I need but it also has a good body and core to it.
I've found it also be very versatile & flexible mouthpiece as I can use it in a big band section without sticking out. It has the playability of a hard rubber mouthpiece with the brightness and projection of a metal mouthpiece.
It's also very free blowing & easy to play. The tuning and the intonation is excellent across the range of the sax, right from the very bottom up to the altissimo!
Another plus was the cost. It's not the cheapest mouthpiece but it's certainly not overpriced or expensive for a pro-level sax mouthpiece.
If you're looking for a great metal sax mouthpiece that gives you a modern contemporary sound but is also versatile enough to be used in other settings then I can recommend the Jody Jazz Super Jet.
