K&M 21459

A friend recommended K&M about a year ago, and told me to look out for their gear on television. I'd never noticed before, but there are an awful lot of K&M stands knocking about on television on all sorts of shows. This in itself led me to believe that the brand must be at the top of their game.

When I first searched Thomann for K&M I was rather surprised to see how much variety there was, and how greatly their products ranged in price, as I had expected them to be way out of my budget. However, I worried that the low-mid range kit wouldn't be any good. I was wrong.

When my speaker stands arrived I was well impressed. I was worried about the plastic clips but they have proven to be a simple and effective approach to setting up the stands. The stands are sturdy and take the weight of my JBL 712s active speakers with no signs of collapsing or toppling over. The carry carry bag is a great touch.

These stands are lightweight, strong and attractive. They led me to purchase more K&M gear. I can sneak some of it into the carry bag to save hassle too!

I take this product to gigs where we play with a guitar, a piano and a singer and we provide all the amplification for ourselves and for our audience. This product is very light and easy to carry around in its bag. Setup is fast and straightforward. We also played once outside in a quite windy environment and the stability was good.

Pros: light, easy to handle

Cons: the safety pin clatters if i play some bass-heavy hammond sounds and i need to set up the stand so that it does not happen (e.g. i let the pin get pushed to the stand so that it cannot move freely inside the hole.) A minor issue, but it would be possible to solve, i guess..

Overall i'm happy with my choice.

An OK pair of stands. Not quite the quality I have come to expect from K&M, though. The safety pin holes had been drilled poorly, so I struggle to push the pin through. Also, the tip of the stand is just a sharp pipe edge with a plastic cap popped on for the protection of the bad during transport that you have to remove in order to fit a speaker on it. A really stupid design. They are on the cheap side, to be fair, but I can't really imagine that the standard caps that fit in the pipe could have been that much expensive. On the plus side, They seem really stable at full length with my 20kg speakers. Also, the clamp system is very good. And they are very light. Bag is also good.
