Great hardware, very frustrating software. Returned
AtoVproject 06.10.2022
I got this sequencer for live sequencing of my modular (drums and synth) and a poly synth.
The hardware is great, high quality material and feel. The output set is also great with the choice of 5 or 10V output range for the CV and gate. plenty of connectors, two MIDI outs.
The unit however does only ship with a USB cable so if you want to sequence some MIDI gear you need a adaptors which I think it pretty unacceptable not to provide... (I had some in stock so it's fine for me but

Where there is a major let down is the firmware. Here are the major faults and the reasons why I returned it:

-You can't set default value for lots of the parameters in your sequence (gate length) and you can only change value of multiple steps by holding the button. For example if you have to have a gate length of 50% instead of the default 75% you need to edit every single steps one after the other. Luckily you can at least edit multiple step at the time by holding the buttons but this is limited and frustrating on a 64 step sequencer, especially live. This would be solved by being able to select multiple steps at the time (without having to hold the step button) or by being able to set default values in the submenus

-You cannot record quantized. When you do livre recording it will save the human feel and imperfections on your timing. Which is great. However it is the only way this works, you cannot have quantized recording to the grid. So if you play something and want to have it set to the grid you have to go back and edit every steps one by one to set the offset to 0. This is not acceptable for live use... Again this can be easily solved by having the option in the submenus

-You cannot record drum live drum rhythms. You can record melodies with different keyboard mode but it is just not possible to play rhythms and record them into the drum sequencer... I really don't understand why this is the case. It's a stupid design decision...

Now for the connection to a computer for firmware update and USB midi stuff
-You need a MIDI driver to connect it to your PC (it's 2022 come on... class compliant is the standard now...)
-If the SQ64 is not on part of the first 10 connected unit on you PC you need to fiddle around with your midi the driver list... (why is this a thing...)

So yeah the hardware is great but the software implementation is really lacking and is quite disappointing... a lot of things would be really improved fairly easily. However if no new feature have been pushed a year after release, I don't have much hope... So I returned it and will use a Novation launchpad pro and a CV.OCD instead

Awesome Sequencer - Fantastic Service From Thomann
Matt Kastle 05.04.2022
First time customer - got this 3 weeks ago - well worth the pennies, using with my Minilogue XD, SR - 18 dm and expecting to buy a few smaller units/synth/boxes soon so can’t wait to hook them up.

Very good service from the team here and loved the tracking info availability also - am browsing for my next buy 😏

Great accessory for my Prophet 5, MS-20, and Grey Meanie
Daddy D. 17.09.2021
The SQ-64 has become a great asset in my collection. It works flawlessly with my Prophet 5, MS-20, and Grey Meanie. I switch up different modules for track #4. It's incredibly versatile, stable, and not too bad of a learning curve. Great purchase!

t
A unique kind of sequencer
tksst 07.07.2024
Pros: hw built like a tank. If it included speed sensitive keys or battery operated it would be the total hw sequencer device.
Also, people are mentioning a learning curve, I found it very easy to use even after purchasing the Oxi One, it was for a time my go to device.
Cons: the major is the inclusion of only one mod /cc parameter. If Korg was able to solve this this would be a 5.

Sequencer for those who do not use a computer..
htc2 22.03.2021
It is not a cheap toy, but the features go ok for that price. Solid case, the knobs could be more user friendly, also the lighting of the knobs, where you cannot tell from time to time if they are lit or not. The knobs are quite on the 'hard push' side, rubber made.

All in all the device is a great add, although the arpeggiator is not what you'd expect. Maybe in future firmware updates an improvement may be released.

Otherwise the handling is intuitive, but I would recommend to look for video tutorials on the web because the manual is quite modest regarding information on how to get the sequencer working in depht..

A modern hardware sequencer though. Recommended.

Very good but not if you want to record a performance from a midi controller
Gonzalezmusiclab 03.05.2024
It’s a great sequencer if you want to write drum patterns and basic melodies, in the other hand, if you have a midi controller and connect it to the SQ-64 beware that you can only record one modulation per track, and that includes velocity… unfortunately for me that is a deal breaker, either sustain or velocity makes the whole playing keyboard and recording it to the SQ-64 far too limiting.
Other than that is a high quality product, sturdy, lots of functions, and comes with a lot of software.
One last thing I wish it came with the power adapter since the lights don’t light up that much only with the USB connection and beware that the midi cables are TYPE A.

Sa
software is not so great, but hardware capabilities are enormous
Slava a 20.04.2023
this device is fine for 3 things.
1 sequencing drums, TR- sequencers style
2 sequencing external gear via the CV output cables. although i could only output via gate/pitch cables.
3 it can record notes/chords and play them back. but surely not for editing those.

the point about CV output is just great. now you can program any complex LFO movements, and output to your analog synth right away.
it took me a year to understand how highly usable it is.
eurorack modules for ONLY this capability should cost equal or more.
