I'm a classical guitarist and a cellist, so I need both hands when I'm playing most of the time. I wish I was one of those talented musicians who can manage to turn the page whilst they're playing. Regrettably, I'm not. So I bought this to ensure I can have the full score laid out in front of me, and I can play my pieces start to finish uninterrupted!!
I do love this stand, and I think it's worth parting with the little extra cash for one of these over a standard-sized music stand. It's a decent size though, and not one that you'll want to carry around with you. But mine is for home use, and fits the bill perfectly.
It's worth noting that unless you play in a well lit room, you'll need some music stand lights. I have the K&M LED lights (also brilliant), and I still needed two to illuminate the full desk. This cost does effectively add another £60 to the price of the stand (and for those buying in the UK, don't forget Thomann ships such products with European plugs...so you'll need an adapter to convert it to a UK plug - but these are easy enough to find.)
Overall, fairly well made. I found some of the metal to be a little cheap looking, but it's only there to hold a bit of paper, and it's more than strong enough for that, and the finish is not displeasing really. The large desk does make it a bit top heavy though, so it isn't the most stable of stands - especially when extended at full height (this will be more of a consideration for orchestral players - violinists, flautists etc).
Overall, you're paying for convenience, and to me the convenience was worth every penny. Not for every musician, but a good product at a good price. Certainly recommended.
