Excellent, bright sounding mouthpiece to help high notes.
Tyse 29.09.2018
I have been playing Trumpet for over 40 years. Every player spends time trialling and evolving their choice of mouthpiece in order to optimise their performance depending on style and individual requirements. It?s not sensible to make a huge jump in mouthpiece characteristics but better to evolve incrementally as you go along. Find a mouthpiece that gives you a benefit in the area you are looking for, take that benefit over months or even years then evolve again. Bobby Shew is renowned for high notes and therefore his mouthpieces are created in that respect. There are 5 mouthpieces in this range, labelled from 1 to 2 in quarter increments, getting slightly deeper at the higher number, with the rest of the mouthpiece remaining the same. My last mouthpiece improvement was to go smaller and I did this 2 years ago and my range improved along with my endurance. This Bobby Shew mouthpiece is excellent. It has allowed me to go back to a larger mouthpiece which much improves the lower note tone but I have also marginally improved my upper range as well. This mouthpiece range is quite shallow so I have selected the 1.75. I may find I need the 2 as my lips are just prone to touch the bottom of the cup after a long session. The overall shallowness of the cup leads to a very bright and zingy tone with an increase in volume too, but if you want mellow, pick up your flugal horn! I can highly recommend this mouthpiece and some players may wish to have more that one in the range and interchange from piece to piece as they only vary on cup depth.
