I've been a fan of Benny Greb for many years now and have always loved the sound of his cymbals. When searching for new high-end cymbals Meinl was my first and almost only choice right from the beginning. I went through many different cymbals but always seemed to come back to this set (I have to mention that I did not get to try these cymbals out in person since it's not possible in my country). This set seemed to work together really good.

After playing for a while here is my opinion on the set.
Sound: 1) 14" Hi-hats - they sound really crisp and are very responsive to smallest input. They aren't loud but work really well in heavier music. 2) 18" crash - very responsive. As Benny says - it opens up quickly even when played with hands - and that's true! The bell sound is quite articulate and it could be used as ride in certain situations. 3) 20" ride - probably the best cymbal on the set. It sounds spectacular. The bell sound is really defined and seems like it comes from a different cymbal because of the lathing process. The bow sound cuts through very well. The best thing is - it sounds great in any type of musical situation. It can be played very softly and loudly.
Design: the cymbals look very vintage like they would have been played for ages. The little Benny signature also ads a cool touch.

A brief summary: I would suggest these as an option for any drummer - rock to jazz. They are very versatile. If you want a good walkthrough, watch Benny himself demonstrate them because everything he says is true!

So, I've been waiting for a first proper high end set of cymbals for a number of years and have tried many brands and models over those years. Meinl has not been much on my radar before 2011. With jazz, fusion and some groove pop as my favorite music styles I was looking for something that would fit my expectations. Studying Benny Greb's literature and videos and seeing him doing some collaboration with Meinl was the starting point to steer my attention. Although I like to try each cymbal myself before buying it, in this case I also relied on the greatness of Benny himself - the guy knows his stuff! Hi hat being my favorite of the set with fine stick definition and chick. Ride cymbal has very clear bell and nice shimmering on the bow, good as a crash too. Crash cymbal responds well in any situation, soft to loud.
