Good kick pad but I had to adjust a few things.
Gerardo5491 15.07.2020
I hope Thomann will take note of my review, it can be extremely helpful for quality control.
So,
Playability - Great, I'm using this with my Roland Octapad and my Gibraltar double pedal, so now you can take note that it works perfect for double pedal.
Construction is very strong, nothing to complain.
Noise emission, yes you will have some knock knock noise but nothing extreme, definitely the fact that this is a mesh head helps a lot reducing noise. If you place it over a carpet even less noise.

Cons - Why I'm giving two stars in Quality?
Ok, quality is not bad at all, it is great but the reason why I'm giving two stars is because I had to open it and make some modifications to fix a problem, which not every person would know how to fix.
I started playing and there was almost no response, almost no volume, but Im experienced in this ( I had the same problem with the Millenium mesh head Snare drum ) and so what happens here is that inside the pad, there is a sensor, this sensor has some centimetres of soft padding (sponge like) which are supposed to touch the mesh head, so it would sense every beat from the kick pedal, but the problem is that such padding (sponge) is not long enough to touch the mesh head, well it touches it but not firm enough, so you play and it is like you are not hitting hard enough, so what I had to do is that I opened the pad, I added a few extra centimetres of sponge, I cut it the same size and shape and pasted it with super glue, put back the mesh head and now it sounds amazing, now it has the right amount of sensitiveness. This is all the same what I did with the snare drum, some models have a velocimeter that you can adjust with a screw, to lower or to higher the sensitiveness or let's say, volume, but that didn't help, I needed to add extra sponge.

Well I hope Thomann team will take care of this detail because not everybody would figure out how to fix this, many people could end up thinking that it has a poor performance or could end up sending it back, but any other than this, the kick pad is amazing, responsive for double kick pedal, strong and so on.
I'm planning to order soon black colour mesh head for this kick pad and for the snare drum so they look cooler together with my Roland Octapad.

Thank you Thomann team for great customer service, fast dispatching, fast delivery.
This product went to Saint Petersburg, Russia, arrived in less than 2 weeks.
Greetings.

For the price, you can't do better.
WelshPhil 16.09.2020
I used this pedal to upgrade my Roland TD-1KV kit.

I didn't want to spend so much money on the Roland kick drum (half the price of the original kit itself), but wanted to have a proper bass pedal feel to my kit and so gave this a try.

For the price, you really can't do better.

The bounce back off the skin is so much more like a real drum skin and so I can now play much faster and am able to add both a funk/ swing feel to my playing as well as a heavier feel to metal etc.

I didn't want to review it until I had worn it in, so waited, and having beaten it to death for the last few weeks, it really does have good build quality for the price.

The acoustic sound is quiet, (not that I care at all about that, but some might), but the thing that I was most shocked by was how sturdy it is. It does not rock at all, or move across the floor.

It has adjustable spikes to keep it in place, but also has velcro that sticks it to the carpet. Be careful if you have expensive carpet, because this sticks like glue to carpets. You really have to pull to pick it up again. It will NOT move if you don't want it to, which has always been a problem for me while playing hard and the drums moving across the floor, so this is very good for me.

Response is also very good. It picks up very fast playing and is able to distinguish between hard and soft beats.

I would recommend this to anyone.

Tried two, couldn’t get it to work with Nord Drum 3P
Rrrrobin 24.12.2022
The pad feels nice to kick, but it doesn’t generate enough of an electrical impulse to get it to work reliably, let alone to get multiple velocity levels working.

Big enough for double pedals
HtrmaS 12.05.2023
Bought it cause older one couldn't support double pedals. This one has no difficulty doing that. No ghost/faulty triggering. The sensor picks up all hits around 200 BPM. It does move around if you don't put a solid support behind it. I live in an apartment and my neighbors haven't complained once. All in all, a great product and value for money!!

OK
Excellent budget pad for bass drum.
Oleg Komarov 17.03.2024
Excellent budget pad for bass drum.
I use a heavy and powerful Tama Iron cobra pedal for playing and even with it it is relatively silent.
But unfortunately the pad moves with my playing when I have to play fast and powerful.
I recommend it to those who do not have the opportunity to buy a more expensive pad.

Great pad, it's biggest advantage compared to others is the reduced depth of the stand, other's and a stand that takes lots of space, even if sometimes the pad itself is smaller, this one is nice and compact on all fronts, without ever feeling like it, and for price, it should be an easy choice.

Inconsistent triggers
Toby Lerone 14.11.2024
Natural the drum beater strikes the middle of the mesh head. However, the sensor is much nearer the bottom, so for more consistent contact I had to really shorten my drum beater to an unusual position.

Also, with the mesh head the trigger often missed notes. But taking it off would still miss or double notes.

The metal frame is sturdy and has spikes and hook and loop for grip. The tension rods and hoop are fine for the mesh head. However, the sensor is too poor for years of playing.

Not compatible with Roland 15-TD... or just overly sensitive
steeleman 25.11.2024
I bought this as a replacement for my aging and fairly battered KD-9. I understood that using a non-Roland bit of kit was a risk but saw other reviews mentioning how this worked flawlessly with their Roland modules.

Starting with the positives, I think the pad itself feels good to play - it has a nice responsive bounce to it, the mesh head lending a similar feel to an acoustic kick drum skin. When positioned properly, it felt sturdy enough to stay in place while running through some intense double kick use.

The main (and basically only) reason I've had to return this pad is because the pad would accidentally trigger frequently. If the stand was tapped or shaken a tiny bit, it would register a 'hit' - despite no contact anywhere on the white pad itself. Even during some fairly light to moderate playing, the pad would register several extra hits out of nowhere. And as mentioned early, the stand is fairly sturdy, so these were tiny movements that led to false triggers.

I was hopeful this was potentially just a single overly sensitive defective unit and hoped for a replacement but after speaking to the friendly Thomann support team, I was informed "that the kick pad is not compatible with this module." and opted to then return the module.

For the price, this kick pad is phenomenal value... but only if it works for you.

Good value, but not out of the box
I'm actually a guitar player lol 07.02.2021
I rarely review products online, but i have to help out fellow drummers looking to purchase this kick pad.

I bought it as a replacement for an older Millenium kick pad which died on me. It took more than a month to arrive, but that was somewhat indicated when i made the purchase. I think it was 2 weeks later than the original estimation. No big deal, it was covid + holiday season.

My issue with the kick pad is the same one that the Russian gentleman a few reviews below experienced. Indeed, hits do not register well, even with adjusting sensitivity and dynamic on my drum module. Tightening the mesh did not help, and i like it medium tight anyway. It was quite obvious that there is not enough contact surface for the hits to transfer well to the pickup. So i thought i'd try what my fellow reviewer did, and started looking for super glue, kitchen sponge and scissors. But i found something even better in by cupboard - self adhesive furniture protective pads, the ones you would put under your sofa or dining room chairs. They were about the same size, so i stacked a few together to give it an additional cm of height, and when i put the mesh back on, it was neatly pressing on it. The kick pad came alive, but i still had to readjust dynamic and sensitivity to my playing style.
