A very striking instrument to play visually. It is not seem to be designed to replace a double bass, but provide an alternative. It is possible to get a passable double bass tone by mixing the piezo with the magnetic pickups and adding a little reverb from a pedal. The supplied flatwound strings are long lasting, and have a wonderful rich tone at all settings.
The bass takes a pair of 9v batteries for the active electronics so it is always worth carrying a couple of spares. There is a pocket on the gigbag that is ideal for storing these and there is also a handy bow pocket for players who use one.
The supplied tripod stand is easy to adjust and enables to bass to be set up for playing very quickly.
The gigbag does not have a lot of padding and the tripod is rather heavy so I wrap mine in bubble wrap when I place it in the external pocket of the gigbag to prevent the bass from sustaining any knocks & bumps in transit.
