Good hand excerciser - but longevity questionable
Anonymous 17.02.2016
The Varigrip is a rather good quality hand exerciser which works very well, the packaging comes with instructions on different ways to be used making it a very versatile way to strengthen different muscles in your hands and produce endurance. On the negative side though, the actual quality of the device is worrying. Though the device is well constructed being quite firm with no rough edges. When pushing down the springs, doing so accidentally at an angle doesn't push them down properly and it looks like they are being pushed out of their proper place. Also I have only owned the product for 2 weeks and the 'd'Addario' text on the side of the product has nearly already been rubbed off. If you scratch it on purpose, I can see it won't take long until you rub the whole text off.

Overall the product works and does so very well, but I do worry and question how long will this product last before it doesn't function properly

Great little tool to train your fingers.
Jack Winchester 16.03.2018
I bought this to help me develop finger strenght for guitar playing. I was a bit skeptical, but I have to say I am pleased with the results I've seen so far.

I like the adjustable tension and how comfortable the Varigrip feels. It's very easy and intuitive to use. The pads are soft and the thumb support is quite good - the device has a little dent underneath to that end. The durability of the srings seems fantastic too.

However, the plastic material seem a bit frail. I haven't damaged it yet or had any problems with it whatsoever, but I feel it rattle a little bit when I'm practicing hard. Hopefully it's strong enough to hold.

I'd recommend this product to anyone trying to develop finger strength and independence for musical purposes. It gets a positive review from me.

PS: I also have to praise Thomman for its hasty delivery of products. Excellent service overall. = )

Fingers already stronger after a few days
Zanbaka 25.01.2021
Got the varigrip a few weeks ago, and after some days my fingers already felt stronger. It's also a nice warm up before playing an instrument (I play piano/violin), as the keys and strings feel lighter afterwards.

Overall the product is really good, but the only thing that sucks is that even though you can adjust the weight for each finger, it already starts to feel a bit light even on the heaviest setting. Then again, for the pinky it is quite heavy even when not maxed out. But still it would have been nice if there was a option to put it even heavier, especially for index and middle fingers.

Time will tell
Anonymous 26.07.2014
OK so far it looks to be a good little thing to play with on trains and when I am not at home. The extra feature of the callus enhancer is a bit of a con to be honest as for me the ridges are far smaller than a string and don't create the same or right feel to get a callus is that makes sense.

The actual finger exercise bit however it great. There is no way I can push it down on the strong setting with my little finger so I know there is going to be room to get a lot stronger than I am now.

While I say the extra feature for callus is no good I am not sure why it is there at all. just after a few minutes of using this thing normally I could feel it on the end of my fingers and in about 30 seconds it was like I had been playing for about 20 mins.

Not sure it will improve my speed time will tell that but I can't see how my fingers won't be stronger from using this.

Will it make me a better player maybe not but it will increase the amount of time I can play for in one sitting for sure.

Good quality but perhaps not worth the price
Vinter 15.05.2021
It is most definitely a well constructed and designed grip trainer, but comparing it to other cheaper alternatives just makes one wonder if it really is worth the premium.

You must put this in your pocket every day!
Ronalds B. 20.06.2015
This is the best gadget if you're away from your guitar. Seriously, just put it in your pocket when you're not playing.
This particular one has many options:
1. Finger training with fingers numbered 1-4 (no thumb)
2. Adjustable "resistance" for every finger.
3. Use it reversed with plastic cover on and you can relax your fingers.
4. Reverse it and take off the plastic and you get yourself a callous trainer (just like real guitar strings).

I use it almost every day, no matter what I'm doing - going to work, sitting in front of computer etc. It is all up to you - just get one and practice wherever you want.

Pretty good
repo251 24.08.2021
Boasts a lot of possibilities including callus development, which is a bit ridiculous. However, the individual tension is worthy of a few stars though mechanically it feels rather cheap..

Not sure how useful it is
Anonymous 22.10.2016
Adjustable tension, individual bits for each finger. It definitely feels like it works.

It's useful if you're going to be a way from your guitar for a bit, or if you warm up before a gig - but for improving finger strength, I think I'd still rather just play guitar.

Good for strength, but not really needed
Anonymous 15.01.2016
I got one of these on a bit of a whim

They definitely make your fingers stronger, but realistically most of what you need for playing guitar/bass is dexterity and speed, which this will not help very much. (Doing it fast on a low setting can be beneficial )
It has however helped with my rugby ball handling
I recommend it as a little somethign to have in your car / on your desk to do whilst not thinking - i'm a chronic fiddler so its fine for me.

It did create a new set of callous' on my finger which was a bit sore for a while too.

Nice to have when not playing guitar
Luke Wolf 16.11.2017
I found this to be interesting, since it allows you to exercise your muscles a little bit while not playing.
I think that this tool might be useful for those people that can't play for long amount of time between a jam and another, but i'm not sure that this will "improve" your muscle.
I think is just something to have to keep the fingers trained.
