Often I use stereo microphones, and I mostly do locations recording, so any way I can reduce the number of cables I can carry and lay out is a blessing. Therefore, my standard microphone cable has five conductors, and I use 3-pin to 5-pin adaptors on each end. 5-pin DMX cables work just fine as microphone cables. The 110 Ohm characteristic impedance and wave reflection is not an issue for the wavelengths of audio signals (until you have a cable a couple of kilometers long), so these work great.
These cables are well built, long, and inexpensive. Even though I live in the USA, it is worth me buying these (along with a lot of other gear) from Thomann and paying the shipping.
The connectors are not the best, and if I were building these I'd use better ones, but these are serviceable. Even if you just consider the wire alone, these are worth the cost.
