Good but lacks a little edge on a snare
Capt Ian 29.07.2015
I bought this as a method of reducing the volume of my snare to play in a small venue rather than for practice. The quality is excellent and whilst I've only had it a short while, it looks made to last. The response is good, if a little rubbery and the tone is pretty good too. Using it with a snare, however, it doesn't give you the same sharpness a normal head would. You do get the crack of the snare wires but you have to put some effort in to get it and it is not as crisp as a normal head.

In terms of volume reduction, this is excellent. The website says it will reduce the volume by up to 80% and whilst I can't verify the exact reduction, it does make a massive difference. I have the 22" bass drum head too and I can really bury the beater without deafening people. Like the 14" head, it has a nice tone.

All in all it's well worth the money whether for practice use or for playing in an environment where you need to play quietly.

Great for practice!
PsykeShow 12.04.2019
It definitely doesn't feel natural, but it's great for practice. I've heard that it feels natural if you put a square of tape in the middle, which I've not tested, but that would reduce the bounciness. However, regards of the bounce it gives, it's a good product. I recommend it if you can't practice because of how loud drums are, this definitely reduces the sound ALOT and makes practice alot easier without disturbing the neighbours/residents of the house.

Bouncy
F vd. Bos 03.01.2019
I use this head for my DIY triggered snare and I like the remo mesh heads. But for me the head is a bit too bouncy and I think that's because it's only one layer of mesh. Next time I'll try the roland mesh, which i also made by remo, but it's made of two layers. Sound is good, but if you leave your resonance head on the drum, you still hear it pretty good, so you should take that off as well.

Like trying to tap-dance with socks :)

Forget rim shots :)

It has silenced my 14x3.5 Pearl FreeFloater to the bare minimum. It's relatively tunable and does the work it's bought for.

Not for snare
Anonymous 26.07.2016
I used the 14s for floor tom and snare drum. For the floor tom is perfect but for the snare, not so much. Mesh heads, generally, are overresponsive, if i may say, compare to a normal head! They have the tendency to 'help' you with the double strokes. So i practice rudiments and other things on the practice pad that i place on the snare and take it off when i want to have fun!

good but...
Repotrawler36251 09.05.2023
its actually too quiet with the zildjan reduced volume cymbals. I had to put tape on mine. the toms sound rubbish imo with these skins, tho the snare was good.. bass drum almost inaudible
sent the kit back and got a RolandTD-27KV2, cos I live on the third floor in central European city.. pity cos I wanted an acoustic kit

Using Remo 14'' silent stroke with snare
Anonymous 29.04.2016
The mesh head itself works great. Please notice the total amount of sound your snare will produce will still depend on the resonant head and the strainer. Also, rim shots will still get out louder than you might expect. Extremely good product, nonetheless.

The choice to practice
eduardobatero 15.10.2023
I would have liked to have those kind of drumheads the very first years when I was learning to play drums and later when I had to practice my things home before the rehearsals.... what a tool !!!
If you want to practice without having people around screaming at you for you to get quiet... go for it!
