With the PSA-1, Australian manufacturer Rode offers a professional table microphone boom arm with 360-degree swivel range in a solid, practical design that reliably holds in position microphones weighing between 700g and 1.1kg mounted on a 3/8" thread. The microphone arm offers more precise placement than a conventional table stand and, on top of that, it also has a more space-saving design, as it is attached directly to the tabletop by means of a screw clamp. The scope of delivery also includes a threaded desk insert for table mounting and a thread adapter for microphone mounts with 5/8" thread.
The Rode PSA-1 microphone arm features a simple, elegant, black powder-coated construction with two arm sections that are articulated at three points and held under tension by a spring mechanism. The head, i.e. the microphone's attachment point, can be tilted, rotated, and locked via a handy winged screw, while the overall construction dispenses with further locking screws and is balanced by the spring mechanism and the microphone's weight. Since the PSA-1 does not have an integrated XLR cable, the model is also equipped with hook-and-loop fasteners to allow cables to be secured.
The solidly constructed Rode PSA-1 has already impressed many users since its introduction. Despite the lack of locking screws on the joints, the PSA-1 easily balances microphones within the specified weight range so that positions can be held securely at any height. The tiltable, rotatable head makes it possible to align the microphone at any time, even when it is firmly screwed in place. The PSA-1 is therefore an ideal tool for microphone recordings at desktop workstations, whether as a podcast or videocast creator, influencer, radio presenter, audio engineer, or musician.
Founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990, Rode is a specialist in high-quality studio microphones. With its very first in-house, completely Australian-built model, the NT2 large-diaphragm microphone, the company created a classic which is still produced in its current and enhanced version, the NT2-A. An extensive range of studio and live microphones has also been added, regularly updated, and expanded over the years. These new additions include a variety of professional microphones which are designed for video and mobile applications and can be connected directly to SLR cameras or smartphones.
Once the visually appealing clamp has been attached to the edge of the table to save space, the Rode PSA-1 can easily be plugged in, rotated, and easily adjusted to the desired working position. It is just as easy to return the microphone arm to a resting position at the side of the table after recording. The high degree of flexibility provided by the PSA-1's three joints offers creative professionals a great deal of freedom in the positioning of the microphone. Many different positions can be adopted, allowing the user to work comfortably at desktop workstations in any situation without having to make major setup changes.
