Edit: I have since bought a much nicer case for only slightly more. I previously thought this case was okay but just cheap. Now I wouldn't recommend that anyone get it. The 'Stentor 1661 Oblong Viola Case' is only about a tenner more and is much higher quality and much nicer to look at. Previously had this marked as three stars, have changed to two. Original review is below.
Not terrible, but very much a case of you get what you pay for.
Pros:
From the outside it looks good, nice big top pocket and zips, clasp and magnets to keep it shut, actually looks quite well made from the outside.
Plenty of bow space, a hydrometer and a string tube if any of those matter to you - personally it seems like if someone has multiple bows and regularly checks the humidity, they'd be willing to put a little more investment into a nicer case.
I saw one review say it was a bit heavy to carry every day if you're a student/working musician - I didn't carry it out the house so I'm not totally sure, but it doesn't seem too bad to me. It's certainly not super light, but it comes with two shoulder straps which are comfy.
Cons:
Inside, the low price starts to show. The pattern on the fabric is kinda nice, certainly different to most other cases which is why chose it. However there are some things that make it look a bit cheap - the edging on the cover, the sewing on the velcro strap, little things but to me they do ruin the overall look. This isn't such a big deal however, theres nothing totally terrible and these things dont exactly stop it from working as a case.
My main issue is the padding. Apparently in order make it cheaper they decided to only put pudding on certain parts, where it seems the viola is held against. I don't know whether this is enough, quite possibly it would be but it makes me nervous as part of the edge has absolutely no padding at all and is just a hard wall. It's also quite loose, my viola is 16" and this seems like it would a more snug fit for a slightly larger one.
Summary:
Not bad, I was torn between 3 and 4 stars but figured since I'm returning it I can't really say it was 'good'. If you want a cheap case and don't care about it looking super nice, this will probably do - but bear in mind you get what you pay for.
Personally I'm returning it to look for a (probably more expensive) case that has more snug padding and looks less cheap on the lining.
