I bought this mic just to have some fun experimenting with a ribbon mic.
It has a very wide frequency response, almost like a condenser.
It has a lot of low end, which works great for distant micing, but if you're close micing you'll probably need to handle the low end with some EQ.
The midrange sounds very nice and smooth, and the high end is detailed and sparkly.
Overall it's a very nice sounding mic, needs less EQ than a typical ribbon.
Since it's an active ribbon, you get a nice signal level without the need for a very powerful preamp.
However, it's still quite noisy, and you will definitely hear a hiss when recording quiet sources.
That's a shame considering the fact that this mic excels at distant micing.
The included shockmount is a bit annoying to use since it's a rigid stepped hinge mechanism rather than a smooth one, so you can't always get the perfect angle and it's a quite slow to open/close every time you want to adjust it even a little.
The nice feature of it is that it puts the mic unobstructed right at the front, so you can get very close to the source if you wish to.
The rubber bands also ripped for no reason after just a handful of uses.
Luckily there was an extra set included, but it doesn't induce a lot of confidence, and it was also a pain to replace because of the obtuse orientation/design of it.
Overall I would love and use this mic a lot more if it was quieter and had a better shockmount that's easier to position and tweak.
