I grew up in the 80s with a limited access to films and music where I was (in Singapore). But whatever little I heard (film music of John Carpenter, Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, etc.) was enough to impress me to want to discover how those wonderful sounds were created. Well, I ended up learning the guitar (because it was cheaper and easier to access) instead of synths. But the love for synth-based music had always been there.
When I was old enough to appreciate analog synths, the good stuff from the 80s and 90s had become classics (meaning…expensive). I’m glad to be able to catch on this new wave of analogue synth renaissance. And now, this wonderful reissue of my childhood icon.
I bought the OB-6 sometime ago and its a wonderful instrument. But the Prophet-5…it’s a dream come true, simple as that. I was requesting the helpful staff at Thomann to help test the synth before shipping (I cannot imagine shipping back to Germany from Singapore if things are not working). Mario at Thomann was ready to indulge me (thank you!) but I ended up just ordering the synth and it shipped before the guys could lay their hands on it (that’s how efficient Thomann is). The wait was made much more bearable though not painless, as the heavy package need to make its way to the other end of the world.
Conclusion? The synth is worth the wait. It really is.
