Power with clarity

Where do I start... This pickup is great.
I used it to upgrade my HB Dynamic. I was looking for something with plenty of power that can also clean up nicely. I decided to go with the SD Nazgul as it claims to have "agressive tones for drop tuning". I don't use drop tunings, I stick to standard, but that statement made me think it would be pretty good with clarity and after watching a few demos my mind was made up.

The pickup came with a wiring diagram for a HH single cut style guitar, not much use to me with my HSH strat, but Seymour Duncan have all the wiring diagrams you will ever need on their site. From there on the installation was pretty simple.

Before I even plugged the guitar in after its surgery, I could already tell that this was gonna be a very tight sounding pickup. When I had things wired up but not yet reassembled inside the body, I tapped on the pickups with a screwdriver and listened to the sound output to make sure everything is good. I could already hear how much mids this thing packs. Not overwhelming but pretty noticable.

With my instrument finally assembled, I strummed my first chord throught this pickup and I was amazed. Its tight, its got power, its got clarity. There's also this pleasent fuzzy tone in the mids that makes distortion sounds so rich. Yet it cleans up very nicely, having some beautiful clean tones is well. This thing just sings. And don't even get me started on the pinch harmonics. They scream like they are about to get mugged.... And this thing is passive! Amazing!

If you are looking for modern tones, this pickup will please you.

Nice Tone

Purchased these to put in my Les Paul Baritone.Ive had the standard Les Paul pick ups, Bare Knuckle pic ups but they never seemed to give me clarity.I play downtuned (A) metal and these Nazgal pickups help with string /note seperation and stop the muddines. These pickups are excellent and deliver the metal tones i want at the tunings i play. They are excellent for metal but also can give great tones for any genre.I highly recomend these.

It Chuggs!

bought one of these to put in my Schecter reaper 6. I didn't like the original Schecter bridge-pickup since it sounded verry muddy.

The installation is very easy. all you need is a basic soldering kit and some verry basic soldering skills. Most people can probably do it without ever having soldered at all so there really isn't a reason to be afraid to do pickup-swaps themselves. There are countless videos on how to do it.

These pickups aren't allrounders and they were never meant to be. (they are not that bad at other things but they are just verry obviously built for one purpose) Seymour Duncan and other brands offer other pickups for that purpose.
These are built for high gain use and for this they are amazing. They have a kinda darker, growly tone. they have a high output with a good note distinction. the tone never gets muddy with this thing. And of course, they do Chugg verry nicely.

The blacked out design (gloss black logo on matt black pickup bobbins and blacked out pole pieces) looks slick. and combined with their flawless construction they are truly beautiful.

Now needless to say I do recommend these to anyone looking for great pickups for basically all genres of metal.

Built to destroy

Amazing sounding pickup, especially for dropped tuning, although it still holds its ground in standard E tuning. Great for any kind of metal really, it enables a good note separation, being a high output passive pickup. Love it.

Great pickup for the low tunes but lacking lows
iddm 28.08.2024
This is a great and tight bridge pickup, especially for a passive one, in combination with tunings below Drop C. It has really pushing mids and highs, and even the low-mids are present. However, the lows are quite reduced compared to the other frequencies. This imbalance is perfect for some situations and not so much for other situations.

When I compare it to the Seymour Duncan Distortion, it certainly has less lows and much more mids, leaving, perhaps, the highs untouched.

When I compare it to the Seymour Duncan Black Winter, it has much more lows and highs, also having less lows. I find Black Winter a winner in this battle. However, the mids here is something that I'd personally try to add back to the Black Winter pickup. This is why I ordered the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop to produce a Necromancer pickup, a combination of Nazgul and Black Winter. I believe it will have a great balance overall.

All the comparisons I did on the same exact guitar, rewiring the pickups every time, going through the same signal chain.
