Like it Heavy?
ISBM 19.07.2016
On the face of it, the Sentient may seem an odd companion for the Nazgul, the output is completely different, but it's not just about pure power!

The Nazgul is a low, super high gain, growling beast of a bridge pickup which handles low, dropped tunings with ease. You get great clarity and a not too bass-heavy tone (you don't need a bassy pickup if you're already tuned down an octave or two, right?!). From my research it is perhaps a little underwhelming in Standard, though I have not tried it myself above C#.

The Sentient is a Vintage output baby by comparison, with an alnico magnet (Nazgul is ceramic) and voicing set between classic rock and jazz. The combination is perfect however, with the Nazgul being the chug-master during the rhythm and the Sentient providing soft flowing leads at high gain. The clean tones too are beautiful, in all three positions on my ESP.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for passive pickups to replace ones that just can't handle the metal you crave. Though are they better than the active equivalent? That's for you to decide.

Value for money? Depends on how much you want to sound awesome...

The Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient 6 pickup set is a remarkable combination that delivers powerful and versatile tones. The Nazgul bridge pickup offers high-output aggression with exceptional clarity, perfect for heavy riffing and solos.

The Sentient neck pickup adds warmth and expressiveness, excelling in clean passages. Together, they create a harmonious blend of power and finesse, allowing seamless transitions between positions. The pickups' dynamic response and quality craftsmanship further enhance their appeal.

Overall, the Nazgul/Sentient set is a sonic powerhouse, providing immense tonal possibilities for guitarists seeking versatility and impactful performance.

Better sound than expected
Donald_DC5 26.06.2020
I bought these on a whim after looking through countless videos comparing passive and active pickups. Very glad I did as they are absolutely perfect for the type of music I play (Metal, Metalcore, Death Metal) requiring only slight amp changes. Notes are heard well and I rate these higher than my old actives I got rid of. As long as you know how to do a bit of soldering these make for an easy install.

Super ANGRY pickups
MAPTbIHOB 17.02.2020
Great sound, great dynamics, great quality!
And the mat surface, just like my guitar. Everything is super cool.
My guitar master said, that they sound like one of the best from all passive pickups that he ever heard.
Also the clean sound of Sentient is very clear and soft, so you get a metal guitar with super cool clean sound(Sentient).
Cool set! Recommend

Tons of gain and surprisingly clean
Anonymous 08.09.2016
A perfect buy for the metal guitarist. They will transform your guitar into a monster. Seymour Duncan says that they are really good at drop tunings and i agree totally.

They got tons of gain, but they are very clean which makes them very versatile. I am quite sure you can put the volume back a bit and even play blues.

Great sound. Tasty, selective. Nice set for any type of metal. Low tunning's are killer under Nazgul.

Awesome from soft mucis to heavy
Anonymous 10.01.2017
I've installed these pickups on my Schecter C1+ for almost a year ago, so I had a lot of time to analyze the sound and compare with other pickups.

The thing I like the most about them is that they suit almost all the styles you want to play in. I've been using them for progressive metal, where we combine soft jazzy parts with thick and heavy riffs - and I can do it with one guitar, just by switching for bridge to neck position.

Tone clarity is awesome, even when playing 6-string chord on high gain - each note can be heard clearly.

Pros:
Clear tone even with a lot of gain. Thick and heavy sound with Nazgul; warm and deep sound with Sentient.

Cons:
Didn't find any.

Amazing pickups
Gorbz 03.08.2019
I bought these pickups to replace the Roswells of my new Harley Benton Fusion II HSH (which is an awesome guitar by the way, amazing neck). I am so happy with my choice. The sound is simply amazing, very heavy due to the "hotness" of these pickups (especially the Nazgul in the bridge). I can play many different styles with them, and the Santient will allow for softer stuff too.

I highly recommend these pickups for modern metal styles, they definitely represent one of the best passive choices out there.
