Really good stuff!
Slapstick 16.02.2014
I have tried a lot of pick ups and pre amps and always there were soemthing which I didn´t like. But this is really great. The price is very good and the sound is also good too.
But I dont like that the Battery is outside on a seperate bag. This is not so beauty and nonpractical. The tuner is a great Idea!

This Preamp works very well and fits perfect on the Double Bass and it feels very stabil. I have used it very often and I am still lucky with this one. Therfefore I can say only good things and I would it buy again! If you need a good preamp with pick ups. Buy This!!!

Fabulous system.
I've been using this for some time now, and it has proven to be the best buy for me in a live setting so far.
I was a long term Underwood user, also Planet Wing pickups, which were and still are fabulous in their own right. This allows great control of my live sound regardless of backline, with nice eq centres. The pre shape and HPF are the game changer to be honest. One package to provide a consistently great sound live, wherever I've played. Hundreds of gigs on this now. Fir roots, jazz and slap you can't buy a better system IMHO. One gripe.... The stupid mini jacks are fiddly and a bit fragile.

Perfection

As soon as I plugged this pick up in I knew it was good, but when I played it live I realised it was incredible. Easy to mount, sturdy construction and compact size. It?s completely silent and sounds good as soon as it?s plugged in, and with a little playing around a whole range of sounds, tones and bass/slap mixes can be achieved. It has plenty of volume and no need for any other pedals - this does it all. If you play rockabilly you NEED this on your bass, it?s so easy to use and gives you total control over your sound. Plus it has a built in tuner! No complaints 10/10

Better than a KK Max
Simon3421 04.06.2015
I bought this and KK Max, The features and sound of this make it a much better buy than the KK. The built in tuner is worth it weight in gold!

Easy rockabilly set-up
Slap-Happy 20.03.2023
this preamp-pickup combo is designed to compete with K&K's rockabilly rig (which I previously used, so this review will mostly be a comparison).. and it is better in some ways, worse in others. There is a noticeably better range across the EQ and gain pots (which are located usefully on the outside of the unit, unlike K&K who took the bewildering decision to bury the gain pots behind the front face of the preamp where they cannot be adjusted without a great deal of hassle).. Sound-wise it is bright and lively, with plenty of output. The bridge pickup will function as a stand-alone pickup for those well-paid jazz gigs we all fool ourselves we're gonna get :)
The only downside is the finish and durability of the 'externals'.
These are sub-par.
For example, they give you a fingerboard ('clicky') pickup which does not have enough wire attached to reach the part of the fingerboard where it needs to be!! ... and my bass is just a 3/4 so FORGET putting one of these on a 4/4 bass.. The wires are cheap looking and thin, the sockets are plasticky and less reinforced than the K&K, and they look like they will give trouble sooner rather than later.
However, for the price this represents a good value, easy and convenient way to make a rockabilly sound.
Put it on carefully and permanently and it shouldn't let you down.

Good Quality built but very poor signal
Anonymous 17.12.2015
There is hardly any low end coming out of this pickup compare to my cheap home made piezzo pickup, only mids and highs.
Then i tried my friend's David Gage the realist bass copperhead one. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALLED BASS SOUND.
Shame because the preamp box looks quality so the pickups but it's just not giving enough signal out.

What an amazing Product
Anonymous 04.03.2016
I have heard so much about the Shadow Rockabilly system and had to get one. I received mine and was amazed at the clarity with the sound. I play rockabilly, swing, Jazz and blue. It's performance has been outstanding.
Pro's: very easy to adjust the sound
the tuning is impeccable
Light weight
Con's: NONE!!!

I recommend this item. You cannot go wrong. I had a few of my friends try it out and they fell in love with it. they even bought 2 of them for their other Upright Basses. Purchase them here. you can never go wrong. They even Stand behind their product. Eddie M from San Diego California

Very good unit

No problems and it sounds great! Battery connection wires look a little flimsy but not caused any issues. Small control knobs a little fiddly and hard to read, but again, have not caused any issues.
