Brilliant for gypsy jazz guitars!!!!
Anonymous 21.05.2016
I use these on all my acoustic gypsy guitars - you can slide the button under the bridge between the feet, and once you have the correct pressure, the resulting signal is excellent. For the money, this is a superb pickup for gypsy jazz guitars. I fitted one to my vintage EKO fretless bass too, and again, the sound is excellent.
The only slight negative is that Shadow changed the design for the attachment point for the 1/4 inch socket. It's now flimsy velcro, which has a habit of coming off and pulling the cable - not good at all. The remedy is to build a little plastic box and glue the socket into it. Then you use strong double sided tape to stick the box to the guitar. Come on Shadow, bring back the old plastic mount!!!
It's still an excellent pick up and totally worth 5 stars

sm
cheap piezo pickup that gets the job done

Great item for the price. I’m new to double bass playing so I didn’t want to spend loads of money. Can’t beat the price of this item for what it does. I’ve played two gigs with it so far. Without a preamp it sound very harsh and treblely. This is because of the impedance mismatch between the peizo and the input on the amp or desk. Using a preamp it sounds good. It picks up the frequencies of my bass evenly. Sometimes I can hear a flanger type sound coming from it but this may be because of the way I mounted it.
I fitted the pickup into the side of the bridge below the e string. Initially it would not fit but used a shim of wood to push it into the side of the bridge. I’ve had no feedback problems, although I haven’t played at high volumes with it.

For the price, well worth it

Writing this review with the price in mind as you obviously cant expect top quality sound for so little, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality I got. While I would recommend something a bit better for recording, this pick up works perfectly for live performances and practicing. The instructions that come with it are very vague and quite difficult to understand but its quite easy to apply the pick up without them. Overall, this product exceeded my expectations and have no regrets with my purchase.

Great value for the money

I'm rather new to the world of the double bass and play pizzicato with a jazz combo. This is my first pickup. I tried it on 3 basses and the sound is good for my ear. On most amps I have to lower the treble frequencies to get the sound right.
Easy to mount: I usually use a folded piece of paper as a wedge.
Overall, a great purchase especially for this money.
