Good for micing woodwind and brass instruments, but doesn't do well on loud stages
Kambotron 14.08.2021
I tried micing my bagpipe with this for live shows for a bit and the sound is very good.
The issue is, I play in a metal band and the loud stage volume was just a bit too much for this mic to handle. On small stages I had to stand near the drummer, and the cymbals bleeding into the mic was an issue.
I'm still going to rate this high, since the issues were in my particular use case and not a general problem. If you play jazz or classical music and you want a bit more freedom to move, this is great paired with a shure wireless (as opposed to standing in one specific place, so you get picked properly up by the mic on a stand)

Excellent Mic
Matt6153 22.10.2014
I have 3 of these microphones and use them either with a TQG-XLR converter or with the Line6 XD-V55 wireless systems to mic up soprano saxophone and diatonic accordion on stage.

The sound quality is perfect for my needs, it is bright (cuts through) and it picks up the whole range of my instruments (including the lower bass frequencies from the accordion).

The mics are very directional and feedback is minimal, even when the stage sound is very loud (with full drum kit and monitors); a high frequency occasionally feeds when you get too near to a monitor (similar to the AKG clip on series which I used before), but an engineer can easily trap it if it becomes a problem.

My only issue is that the cable is a little flimsy and it could be longer... it would be easy to damage if you trod on it by mistake. This is a shame as the mic / chassis itself seems very durable and the clip is strong. I normally use the included cable tidy to shorten it as much as possible, then clip it into a tougher cable before it hits the floor.

Micro Shure WB98 pour saxophone
Jean-BaptisteB 23.05.2011
Parfait!!
